Destination wedding welcome bag/ favors

Nicole, on January 16, 2017 at 3:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Since we are having a DW and most of the big things will be taken care of by the venue, I have been thinking about some of the smaller aspects of the wedding.  I should probably delete my Pinterest account,  but I keep going back to it Smiley smile  And I keep seeing things for welcome bags and favors for a DW.  Most of what I see looks so cute and I immediately pin it.  But I am also wondering if these are things that are necessary or will just end up being wasted money.  I know my guests will be taking time off work and spending more than they usually would to attend a wedding.  I want to give them something as a thank you.  I just want to make sure it is something they will actually want/need/will use and not something that will get thrown away.

If you were attending a DW, what would you think of these ideas?

1.  A tote bag with some snacks, sunscreen, chapstick, and maybe a drink Coozies.

2. A tote bag with a fun beach towels.

3. A beach wine bottle stopper.

    4. A beach themed candle and candle holder.

Any other ideas of what you would like as a guest or what you are doing for your guests if you are having a DW?

No ideas to offer but keep in mind if you are flying to be at the wedding you have to account for the weight in your luggage that all of this stuff would take up!

I brought welcome bags onto the cruise and it was a huge pain. I wish I skipped the bags and just brought the personalized koozies and sunglasses. I bought small bottles of sunscreen and aloe and I don't think anyone had enough time to get sun.we couldn't bring snacks or anything. I would keep what you bring to a minimal.

We had a DW at the beach so ours were in beach bags with snacks (candy, trail mix, chips), personalized water bottles, a fan, playing cards, suntan lotion, personalized chap sticks, special made University of Maryland cookies... I think that's it, I might be missing something...

    ETA: We had sunglasses too

We are doing a destination wedding. A beach wedding. We are giving each guest a beach sand bucket with different activities that are planned along with sunscreen and a water bottle. Our wedding party gifts also are in this line with sunglasses beach blankets beach bag pirate hats for the guys and wedding jewelry for the girls. Just remember anything you plan to give you have to get it there which can be difficult.

I've been debating whether to make them as well for our DW. We are flying from Oregon to Jamaica. So, I was worried about traveling with enough items for 30 people. However, as a guest I think I would like option one! People often forget sunscreen and chapstick.. And the sunscreen was super expensive at the last resort that I went to. I was debating doing something similar for our guests Smiley smile

We are having a DW in Mexico. Our welcome bags are all things for them to use at the resort. So far I have towel clips, aloe, floating coozies, waterproof phone bags, and selfie sticks

We had a beach wedding so I included personalized water bottles, granola bars, candy, pashminas, flip flops, candles, and a cute note. I put all of that in beach bags for my guests.

Im going to do hotel bags similar to your #1...A tote with snacks and water bottles.

I'd be pretty excited if I checked into a hotel room and there was a bag of snacks I could eat and didn't have to pay for!

I'm doing welcome bags for my DW - definitely don't do candles as that could get taken away from you for safety reasons. Lots of places have that on a prohibited item list. I wouldn't do food if food is included already with their package. I like the beach bag idea! You could also do a bag of things you might have forgotten and need - Advil, sunscreen, lip balm, toothbrush etc

We got one, at one wedding we attended. We barely used any of it - only stayed 2 nights - and the rest went into the trash can, rather than pack it in our suitcase, for the flight home. We stayed at a full-service hotel, which gave us cold drinks and warm cookies, at check-in, and had all the toiletries we needed, in the bathroom.

P.S. That was one of the worst hosted wedding I've ever attended. I wished they had put the welcome bag and favor budget into more/better food.

@Dreamer that is what I am afraid of. It is an all inclusive resort so all drinks, food and room service are included. I'm assuming people will bring their own sunscreen and other things like that and would rather put the money towards something people will actually use.
