Quick question: how will the bags get there? You can't carry on 50 bottles of sunscreen.

We're going to have to give them out before flying down and bring just the few out of staters so their not technically welcome bags but same idea

Err.. What? That's a huge mess for your guests. DF and I are going to Jamaica in May. You can guarantee my liquids bag is going to be jam packed with stuff I need, and I definitely wouldn't be tearing my careful packing apart to squeeze in some welcome bag stuff.

You're quite welcome. Just trying to help you not inconvenience your guests. Good luck.

I actually think they are a really nice gesture. But that's just me.. Guests spend a lot of money to be there for you and welcome bags seem like a really nice way to thank them. You would be surprised how often people forget to bring things like sunscreen, tylenol, etc. I am actually bringing everything with me. I do have a wedding planner so she will be putting the bags together when we get there. Also search the threads for more ideas. I know some other ladies have posted some really great ideas.

@Glam0rous: I agree they're a nice gesture, but giving them to guests just before they get on a plain is a difficulty on their part. :/

We're getting married at riu Ocho Rios, we stayed there in 2012 and loved it. We were torn too but it was a good vacation spot and prices reasonable for guests, far from the airport though:/ we are honeymooning at sandals Ochi

Depending on the hotel the hotel may let you ship the items to them directly and then you can make the bags for the guests once you get there. I know the Marriott I stay at for work is happy to hold packages for me. I'd atleast ask the hotel:

    As for suggestions:

Mini packets of Advil (nice for the day after Smiley winking )

    drink koozies?

    a map of the area?

I think its a really nice gesture to do welcome gifts Smiley smile

I'm doing welcome bags as well. Once we mail the invitations and receive the rsvps I will start putting them together.

I'd have to agree with Kelsey. I love welcome bags for DW but, to give them before hand might be a bit too inconvenient BUT totally see if you can skip anything liquid or get the items shipped before hand.

Good idea, I'll look into shipping it there. If not I'd give them out at least a week before

I have also found that including a list of wedding events for the weekend is helpful. People may not be using their phones internationally due to costs and they will need to know when and where events are taking place. Sounds fun!

I personally think they are a waste of time and money, (anywhere, not just here) and giving them out at the airport is a logistically troubled idea. Are they all leaving on the same plane at the same time? What person would go to Jamaica without sunscreen and sunglasses?

I'd probably skip that and put together a little welcome party for the night before.

If you want to do them (I think they are a thoughtful idea, but not necessary), I would ship them. Be sure to look into any shipping restrictions before buying anything, but you can assemble them here and ship them ready to go to your hotel. Years ago I did this for a Mexico DW the event company I was working for was planning. We included flip flops, sunscreen, sunglasses, coozies, mints, Advil, and bottled water (purchased there). It was during the bird flu thing and Mexico was opening all packages and not allowing anything made in China into the country. Do you know how hard it is to find cheap flip flops NOT made in China?

I was going to do welcome bags for our DW, but once I listed out everything we would have to lug between home and our destination it was NOT WORTH it so we canned the idea. Seriously write it all down, and I shipped 3 boxes ahead of us as well. Welcome bags are just one more thing you have to do.

Take the 2-300 bucks you would use for the bags and contents and put it towards more drink, food, photography....etc.

I'm doing that for my wedding as I'm planning a Destination Wedding too... I'm also a Dollar Tree lover and must admit that although my wedding is far off I almost have a complete list of what to buy in Dollar Tree (including some bags) that you can personalize with a tag or something else... Sunscreen, sunglasses, mints, and a list of places to go will be good Smiley smile
