Destination wedding.....welcome bags???

Meg, on May 28, 2016 at 5:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Ok so I've been reading a lot of post today and now I'm stuck. We are having a very small destination wedding in Treasure Island Florida in July. This is a family only even so I hardly have 18 people attending. I have decided to go against wedding favors because for the few I need they are just as expensive as if I bought 100!!! So I recently discovered that welcome bags are customary which I really like the idea of. Should I get just cute beach backs and fill them or should I customize the bags and spend the extra money???? What what do you suggest goes in them??? Thanks in advance:-)

I think you can absolutely stick with the generic bags. In our welcome bags we put: an itinerary of the weekend events, activities they can do outside of the wedding events, food that reflected the local area.

I'd avoid putting in things that people will bring separately and will likely get thrown away: cheap sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. There are tons of suggestions on Pinterest/Google for what to put.

For DWs, I think it's really important to limit the number of items in the bags to things you know people will use during the trip or will definitely be able to take home. I feel like avoiding liquids that people can't fly with and anything too big to be used in one or two uses is key. But for a small wedding, I think this would be a lovely idea!

    I LOVE treasure island!!!

I've seen a lot of gift bags in my day... I think generic beach bags are fine! I bet you could even find some with shells or flip flops or something on them.

I think some water and small snacks are always nice - especially if they're at a hotel. A travel size sunblock is nice, but like PPs said, nothing too big.

I've also seen cute "hangover kits" that have aspirin in them.

    I love treasure island!

I agree with the hangover kit. Snacks would also be a good idea.

Where in treasure island? I'm getting married in St Pete Beach. My FH and I currently live in the Tampa area and knew we just had to have a beach wedding here. We're not doing gift bags for our out of town guests cause well, that's 90% of our guests and can get pricey. We're hoping the 2 HR Buffett and open bar or gifts enough Smiley smile good luck!

We are doing this for our cruise wedding for everyone that sails. I found super cheap tote bags with anchors on them on orientaltrader... $11.99 a dozen. They are big for the price! The material is thin so dont expect the world... but good deal for OOT guest bags. Closer to my wedding date Im buying sample size stuff in bulk from amazon... there are some good deals on there too. We will be doing things like pepto bismol, ibuprofen, sunscreen, chapstick, cheap sunglasses, aloe gel, dramamine, small waterproof bags, a tumbler etc

I recommend generic bags so guests can re-use them. You can create a cute tag or customize the favors or water bottles you put inside.

Some good generic ideas are water, a hangover kit, sweet snacks, salty snacks, an itinerary and local activity options.

DW in Aruba - 18 guests but only 9 bags. I bought plain generic bags at discount mugs dot com. We are doing hangover kits (DIY brown bags with a cute label. They have Tums, breath drops, Tylenol, Advil, generic Gatorade powder that you can mix with water, etc.), insulated mugs from the dollar store, sunscreen, gum, towel clips, coil bracelets with clear plastic badge holders for room keys, and probably a few other items I'm forgetting. We plan to buy bottled water, cookies, and a salty snack once we get to Aruba. We also have an itinerary, a hand-written "thank you for coming all the way to Aruba" card, and we plan to add maps of the resort and island.

I'm doing a destination wedding in Jamaica with under 25 guests. I brought plain canvas bags from Michael's and customized them using the Jolees Easy Image Iron on Transfer sheets. Total cost for each empty bag was about $3.00. I'm also doing an emergency kit with aloe vera gel, aspirin, benadryl and pepto bismal. I plan to pick up some local snacks once we arrive.

Did you buy the cups there? I love this idea. I’m getting married at the Marriott in Aruba in March.
