Destination Wedding

Sadie, on December 29, 2021 at 8:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Any tips on destination wedding? We’re getting married out of the country in Mexico and I was wondering what I should bring on my carry on. Wedding dress? Shoes?

Also, if anyone has had a destination wedding & have any other advice or tips that would be great!

I recently got married in Puerto Rico! I carried on my wedding dress, there was no way that was leaving my sight . I flew Delta & they were great accommodating me & hung it in a closet on the plane. I wanted to ship my DIY & welcome bags but shipping was wayyyy to expensive so I had to pack them very carefully & check those suitcases. Everything was intact & nothing was messed up in transit.

Congratulations!! I will have to let you know more tips once we have our destination wedding in February. Here are some things that come to mind as a destination bride who gets married next month:

    1. We Sent out our save the dates 11 months in advance to help people logistically and financially plan for the trip.2. We Planned other activities besides just the wedding (welcome party for all guests instead of sit down rehearsal dinner is our main event). If you decide to host other activities, Make sure you budget for these extra activities early on in the planning process, we didn’t and had no clue how expensive it was. In my opinion it’s nice to have at least one other activity planned for everyone to meet each other before the wedding day if it’s a destination wedding.3. Create a wedding website with helpful info on it that you can send out with your save the dates and invitations.4. A great wedding planner will help you find great vendors that will put your mind at ease and make everything run smooth the day of.5. Keep in mind that covid requirements and covid testing in a destination other than the US can be an inconvenience or burdensome for guests and can be limiting for who can travel there as well. We had a few immediate family members unable to come to our week due to new vaccine requirements. On the bright side, it keeps things safe for having a larger event.7. Since it’s destination, you have less control of small details and less you can DIY and you have to trust your vendors to run with your vision.

Absolutely carry on your wedding dress and shoes, as it would be a nightmare if those were lost.
