Destination wedding

I’m getting married in Puerto Rico and we have a venue and officiant. Should I get a planner or should I just continue with doing everything myself. I think I just need lighting, DJ, and decor left or am I missing something?

Whether you are forgetting something depends on what all your venue includes. Typically people hire vendors for the following items: venue, officiant, caterer, bartenders/waitstaff, photographer, videographer, flowers, cake baker, hairstylist, make up artist, DJ/musicians; and some people hire vendors to provide decor, lighting, table cloths, etc.

Venue does tables and chairs. I have a photographer and videographer. The cake will be fake and cupcakes will be served. The food is from the venue.

Oh nice!! I looked at that venue too. We ended up at El Convento. I didnt use a planner- did everything myself from Kansas City and had a coordinator who ended. up leaving us at the last minute. I hired venue (catering and bar included), officiant, dj (MC included), cake, florist (florals, decor and uprights), and hair and makeup. For florals and decor I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Miriam Dobano. She's done weddings at your venue before and does absolutely incredible work. Doing it all on your own requires a LOT of organization and planning. If that's not your personality I would totally recommend a planner. That being said, I loved doing it myself. I'm a major control freak and I really loved being able to have a bigger hand in all the communication.

Oh well then I highly recommend reaching out to several vendors in each category! Have your budget figured out, and know that there's bound to be someone out there who will meet your needs. And if not, then maybe its a place where you can diy and have family and guests bring the projects down with them. I would also determine what's most important to you when it comes to money. For me, Florals were INCREDIBLY important. They're my favorite part of any wedding I go to and I had a specific idea of what kinds of florals I wanted. I also put aside money every month into a separate savings account such that when all the final vendor payments started being due I knew that we had the money set aside and ready to go. Keep track of your budget as you go.

Yes we have started saving. I’m was going to DYI my center pieces and get florals for ceremony and bouquets. I’m having a hard time finding an affordable DJ for music and lighting and finding someone to do a fake wedding cake for pictures and serve cupcakes instead.

The cake might be hard to do... I haven't heard of anyone doing that before actually now that I think of it. What if you made a display of the cupcakes?

For a DJ I recommend Media Entertainment Puerto Rico! I believe they were about $1300 for ceremony, cocktail hour, and 5 hours of reception. We had our MC services included for that cost due to being a Monday wedding.
