Destination wedding—trials?

plangalCG, on March 6, 2018 at 11:14 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
Hi all—I am planning a destination wedding. It’s within a weekend driving distance (5-6 hours) so nothing international but I don’t know if I will have time for a hair or makeup trial. I’m going there this weekend but will be with FH and honestly didn’t have time yet to plan anything. Has anyone gone blind into wedding hair/makeup? I really don’t want to do my own but I see so many nightmare trials on here that I’m scared!

I have no insight, but I am in a similar situation. I'm a couple thousand miles away from where our wedding is and won't be going back until a week before the wedding. I won't have time for a trial before I hire a person. I have just been trying to see as much of the work of the MUAs I can.

Oof...yall are braver than I. Living in CA, our wedding is in NY....we did a 3 day weekend getaeay in Jan. and did catering tasting/meeting officiant/makeup trial etc all in that weekend...the only thing I didn't get to try was my hair - the girl got the flu so she had to cancel...but we will have a trial 2 days before the wedding, cutting it close but not entirely blind!

Amanda—smart! I may see if there’s still time to sneak one in. I just have been dragging my feet because I have no idea how to even pick one! This is worse than the photographer, who I also dragged my feet on!!!!

I totally get your situation! My venue is 8 hours away. I found it really hard to find someone reasonably priced (tourist towns suck), could coordinate a trial with me on a certain weekend I was coming down, and did work I actually liked. Harder than expected, really! I originally hired someone that could travel down, but they flaked.

I ended up deciding to do my own. If you want something you don't have confidence doing, you may see if you can squeeze in a trip or you'll just have to trust online reviews and their photos. It's a hard situation!

I am going to have a trial at home with my girl and have my MOH take pictures along the way and of the end product to show the girl doing my hair in Vegas. Then if she has questions we will have pictures of the different steps.

I’m also getting married in a tourist location and popular destination wedding spot! My stylist here was all “oh just search for someone on Instagram then see if they will travel to you” if only it were that easy! Most places there are specialized bridal hair/makeup places (really expensive and can’t even tell what they’re like) or somewhat low key salons, nothing in the middle. I may end up doing my own but I know especially makeup will take a lot of practice. I generally just wear light makeup and know I want more drama. I wouldn’t mind my hair being more or less how I wear it most days...with a little something.
