Diamond fell out of my ring!!

sdgher, on July 30, 2015 at 11:12 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 31

This is the second time!!!! Has anyone had this happen?? It's not my center stone (I would die), just one of the halo ones. And it's right on the prong (which is why i think it keeps happening - not sure if you can really tell in the photo).

I took it to the shop the first time and they replaced it. But now it happened again! I am assuming it's the same one but I guess it could be one from one of the other three prongs. what if it keeps happening?? I'm freaking out. I have only had my ring like 10-11 months and a diamond has fell out twice?! ughh

One of the local jewelers in town refused to sell rings like ours because he said that happens a lot. I really wanted a ring similar to yours though, so we purchased it from Reeds and got the lifetime warranty just in case it ever happened. So sorry Lady, but you should probably expect it happening a few more times too.

This happened to a friend who had a similar set up. Maybe get the opinion of a different jewler to make sure the one you bought it from isn't off their rocker. That really sucks :-(

My friends first ring from Zales had this problem. Zales has a lifetime warranty so they replace them but it was getting annoying so she upgraded to a solitaire ring when they had a special 50% off invitation only sale. Where did you get your ring?

I've heard of this happening to a few people I know with halo rings. It has to do with the type of setting they use. I would just make sure your warranty or insurance is up to date or upgraded to cover future incidents if it has already happened twice.

Aww that is a shame. Can you take it to a different jeweler to fix up? Maybe this one isn't fixing it properly if it was the same diamond. Smiley sad

I would take out some insurance on it (if you haven't already) just to be on the safe side. I had a diamond ring (not engagement ring) that did the same thing--I would have to take it in every so often so they could replace it. They never charged--it was more of an inconvenience than anything else.

I had one fall out too!!! I would DIH if it was the main diamond - I have had several nightmares about that. Yikes!

Thank goodness for free replacements, right?!

I keep checking mine to make sure that diamonds have not fallen out since they are really small on my halo. i just noticed that on my ring they staggered the diamonds to that the prong is actually in between two diamonds so there aren't actually any diamonds the the place where yours are.

if the diamonds are small enough maybe you can just have the other 3 taken out and the setting filled in? but it looks like yours are bigger than mine are so you could probably notice it more.

I just inspected the heck out of my ring out of fear! They will continue to replace it, I hope. I am sorry this keeps happening to you!

Yes we have insurance on it, FH did that the day he gave it to me! haha

The jeweler is extremely reputable (family owned, been open forever, etc.) and the setting is Verragio (also reputable) so I feel like if anything it's just because of the way the prong is, but I am no expert so IDK. I am going to have it fixed, if it happens again maybe I will take it somewhere for a second opinion. I love my ring and can't imagine trading it in Smiley sad

What if they replace the setting? the prongs for the halo diamonds may vary where they are placed on each setting that they make. with a new setting (same design) they might be able to move the diamonds over so that there isn't a diamond sitting behind the prongs for your centerstone.

eta: also all of my diamond on the halo have 4 prongs, the diamonds in the halo probably need more prongs on them.

Also, look at how your setting is made. I have a halo (sorry halo haters). When you look at it from the top, you only see stones and prongs, but the bottom of the setting underneath the halo is flat and solid gold. There's a little hole in the middle where the center stone pokes through since I had it lowered into the setting. Those suckers are in there. I've had it for over two years and have REALLY knocked it hard without anything falling out. You could look at it being fixed that way if it isn't already.

@surfergirl do you have a pic of what you mean about being staggered? when the diamond is in there, mine looks staggered too..

I can't get my phone to take a good pic - i looked through my e-pics but couldn't find one that really shows. The diamonds are pretty tiny in the halo. I just really don't want to change it. I love the ring (here is a pic from the front - the detail is incredible)

I love Verragio! Definitely dream ring status there! I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with the setting. The prices on those settings should warrant really high quality.

@Lynnie - its white gold, not platinum.

@KM - RIGHT?! I didn't really want to sound snoody/stuck up by saying that, but it's what I am thinking!! This is NOT something I thought I would have to worry about with a Verragio ring!

Also, my halo is like yours too - solid underneath. Ps does the bottom of your diamond get SUPER dirty?! I feel like since there is so much exposed underneath, I am constantly having to clean it off!

ETA - eww please excuse my dirty fingernails - **runs and hides in shame**

I did the best that i could ( i really need to clean my ring ewwww)

there are at least 3 prongs if not 4 on the diamonds that abut the center stone prongs and there is a gap that is right in the middle. not sure if you can see it
