So I just read all the proposal stories in the July contest, and I must say I loved every single one! Whether it was fancy or simple, it was so special and so completely YOURS! So I just read all the proposal stories in the July contest, and I must say I loved every single one! Whether it was fancy or simple, it was so special and so completely YOURS!

I don't have one of those stories. Infact I’ve been married twice and have never been proposed to. My 1st marriage, I was 18 and pregnant. My mother made me marry the DB. She invited his mother over for tea, they chose a date. 3 weeks later we were married. (Biggest mistake ever!)

My current husband and I dated in highschool, we just knew we would be together forever. He joined the AirForce right after HS and before he left he bought me an engagement ring. He never said the words though, never got down on a knee, just put it on my finger and we both cried.

While he was gone I missed him so incredibly much and had a really hard time dealing with things. So what did I do...? I cheated on him. Just looking for someone to numb the pain I guess.

Yes they're still married. A bit rocky at times, and when I was told that at 16 I freaked out and swore my life was a SHAM! But I got over it. She also admitted to me she never wanted to have me. HAHA! Whatever, we love each other now and things are good as they can be. They're just a list of "what not to do" Smiley smile

You're not the only one. We did it over a text during work. Worse than Carrie and Big. At least they were in person. And he didn't exactly ask. He said we needed to make a decision about our future. I asked what it was about. He said getting married. I said ok. We're engaged... end of story.

    That is an INCREDIBLE story!!

I didn't get a propsal. Last year, I had breakfast with a high school friend while we were both back at our hometown just visiting. During my five day trip, we talked day and night the whole time. The last day I was there, we decided to "be together". One month later, he relocated to where I was. A few weeks after that we set a date. Then we decided to build a house. I don't have an e-ring either. I do have a man that loves me endlessly and a beautiful house on the lake, and I'm perfectly okay with that.

I agree with all the other ladies your story alone is a great one you don't need a "special" proposal.

I knew mine was coming so I wasn't surprised. Eh, proposals are over rated...lol at least for us girls that had so so ones .

We planned to get married but I told him he had to propose in person. He kinda forgot. I kinda reminded him about 2 hours before we got married.

Umm guess ill be the bad guy but i wouldnt want to marry you if you cheated on me. im glad things worked for you but you shouldnt be sad you didnt get a proposal you should be happy he still loved you after you hurt him like that. But age has a lot to do with it. You were young and young people make lots of mistakes. I hope you have a great marriage. Dont worry about not getting a proposal just stay in love

I think we watch too many movies and TV shows with men doing the "will you marry me" thing down on one knee, and read too many magazines with stories about proposals.

Your story, as other posters have said, is lovely in itself, that you found each other again. Focus on that and not the proposal itself. My previous marriage...well, he didn't propose to me, I said his father wanted us to marry as we had a child and he said, so long as we don't spend more than $500 on a ring, okay. Romantic, much? LOL But because my FH knew that happened, he proposed to me in a loooong letter he emailed to me then put on the website where we met. It wasn't a surprise and it wasn't in front of me on bended knee (his arthritis wouldn't stand for that haha), but it was lovely all the same.

I think your bloke sounds just wonderful...

Yeah I really wanted the big engagement story to be able to tell ppl who ask (which it turns out, noone does) and my engagement story isn't at all like what i'd pictured. We had just finished moving him back into his apartment to start law school and were watching the Office's wedding episode where Jim and Pam get married. We had been talking a lot about being engaged and it just felt like the "right" time so I told him I was ready and he pulled the ring out of a box by his bed that he'd brought with him just in case. He didn't get on one knee or say anything at all. He just handed it to me. I still cried and couldn't believe it regardless of not having it in public, photographed from afar or not being bombarded immediately by friends and family. I think at the end of the day it really doesn't matter how he asked you, it's who asked you.

@Nadine: it's called forgiveness. Maybe you've heard of it or is that something you've never needed before?

@HisMrs: BEAUTIFUL STORY! definitely one that dreams are made of. Actual proposal or not you win, hands down!

Your story is very romantic; it brought tears to my eyes! It’s adorable that he looked for you for 18 years. I’m so happy that you have found happiness and a great guy.

I didn’t get a proposal either. We bought a condo together and agreed that after we were done remodeling we were going to get married. We originally had planned on eloping or telling our parents and siblings we’d be headed to Vegas if they wanted to come but the second we were engaged and family got involved it turned into an actual wedding wedding. It sucks now when people ask how we got engaged and I have to tell them “well it just happened.” Some understand, but some think it’s ridiculous!

Girlie, to have a man chase after you for 18 years is hands down the best story Smiley smile we've all tripped a few times in our lives, but you're story is about true love endearing over time and looking past our previous shortcomings!

Oh and bridal balls to you for sharing your story Smiley smile

My fiance and I have been planning our wedding for months before he actually proposed to me officially. He actually just proposed to me July 4th! He took me to Apple Hill here in California, we had some yummy apple goodness, then we walked the apple orchards. We picked a spot to hangout under a tree for a little while, staring up at the sky. Just when we were about to leave he hugged me and suddenly started walking over to an apple tree and picked up an apple from the ground. He started to examine it and brought it over to me to look at. I noticed that it was cut around the top and he told me something must be inside. I immediately thought that he was going to do a magic trick on me because he has an illusion ministry that he does on the side. Anyway, I opened the apple and there it was all sparkly and shining in the sun! A ring!!! He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him! I cried and screamed out YES!!! U have a wonderful story to share, with the truth that love conquered all

I think all the stories are unique and beautiful in their own ways, proposal or not Smiley smile In the end there was/will be a marriage, each story just had different chapters in it leading up to it. I

have a proposal story, but my parents didn't.... my dad just handed my mom the engagement ring AND wedding band, sat down awkwardly beside her and said "So like we've been talking about, we should get married.. Here are the rings." And almost 30 years later they're still happily married Smiley smile

@jac-jac attack I said it would be the bad guy. I did also say you were young. Younger people make mistakes it happens. And she is loved and knows that after all this time he is still madly in love with her so dont sweat the small stuff.

Did I hit a nerve with you? It was mean to say yes but truthful none the less. But it doesnt matter what I or any of us says what matters is that she is happy in her life with her man now.

I didn't get proposed to, we moved in together after dating for 1 year, a couple months later he joined the Army, he did his 4 year contract, just finished about 7 months ago, and as soon as he came home the next day, he said we need to go look at venues, I want us to be married by the end of this year. So here we are planning a wedding.
