So I just read all the proposal stories in the July contest, and I must say I loved every single one! Whether it was fancy or simple, it was so special and so completely YOURS! So I just read all the proposal stories in the July contest, and I must say I loved every single one! Whether it was fancy or simple, it was so special and so completely YOURS!

I don't have one of those stories. Infact I’ve been married twice and have never been proposed to. My 1st marriage, I was 18 and pregnant. My mother made me marry the DB. She invited his mother over for tea, they chose a date. 3 weeks later we were married. (Biggest mistake ever!)

My current husband and I dated in highschool, we just knew we would be together forever. He joined the AirForce right after HS and before he left he bought me an engagement ring. He never said the words though, never got down on a knee, just put it on my finger and we both cried.

While he was gone I missed him so incredibly much and had a really hard time dealing with things. So what did I do...? I cheated on him. Just looking for someone to numb the pain I guess.

You're not alone, this will be my third marriage. The first one, just kinda hapoened and ended just as quickly. The second one I asked him, nothing special, just a "hey, you wanna get married" while watching tv one night. My FH says the last time he asked a girl to marry him it didn't work out so well, so I got no proposal, we just picked a date, I still want my romantic gesture, or for him to at least say the words Smiley sad

Thanks Candi and OTW. Smiley smile

Nadine, opinions are more than welcome on this site but don't assume your opinion is wanted when no one is looking for opinions. We are all looking for constructive criticism in a helpful way, not on past situations that we can't do anything about. When you posted recently about a good ring for yiur "fat fingers", you received polite input, not "well it's your fault you're fat, you don't deserve a ring.. You're lucky your guy even loves you". Do unto others sweetie.

ETA: not discriminating over weight, just making my point.

Lets not turn this away from HisMrs. This is HER thread and it's an AMAZING story! We definitely don't want to get the moderators involved and shut down this post! It would be a shame to hide this beautiful tear jerker of a story!

YW Laura! I'm with OTW - You are definitely one of the oldies (like it or not) Smiley tongue lol

Jac Jac is right, I was speaking of maturity. Hands down. I am one to keep the peace & abide the "If you don't have anything nice to say..." but I felt hurt for HisMrs & had to speak up. No one in this entire post said cheating was or was not okay, but no one asked either. You said it perfectly Laura.

It sure is OTW! I think a good video could be created HisMrs. Smiley winking

I actually proposed to FH. I had everything planned for the day then dinner at our favorite restaurant. I excused myself, gave the ring to my bff who was our waitress and she put the ring on his plate. He was surprised and his eyes started tearing up, he asked what was going on so i got up, walked over to his side and grabbed the ring, got down on one knee and proposed. He said yes of course.

Sometimes i wish i would've waited because i wanted a romantic proposal but then again i think of FH and i'm ok with it because he would not know what to do lol

@ HisMrs- Your story is incredible! Congrats on getting the love of your life back Smiley smile

OTW is right. His Mrs, you tell your love story and you tell it with pride "my guy chased me down for 18 years regardless of everything else. What has your guy done for you lately?" Smiley smile

OHHH MMM GGGG Ok so Nadine said something that was unnecessary for this post but she voiced her opinion and it was commented on now let's just leave it be & focus on the true nature of this post. That is HisMrs beautiful essence of her story & the fact that though everyone may not have had the ideal proposal, we all feel we are marrying our ideal man.

@ Nadine, I'll take this opportunity to perhaps voice it in a way that you can hear the message & not so much the"tone". We have no idea the entire story, nor do we know how much she has or has not beaten herself up for making one choice that changed the course of her life. We do know that FH & she must have worked through it. You may have thought you were telling her something she needed to hear, but I'd be surprised if that was the 1st time she'd ever heard it.

We all have our own opinions and are entitled to them, it's just that this time the focus should be on the end result. We are protective & that's what you are hear.

I got goosebumps reading your story. It's rare a proposal story has that affect one me.

I know plenty of people who weren't officially proposed to, but are happily married nonetheless.

My ex-husband's proposal was such a let-down and I almost had to force myself to be excited. I should have known. there were so many signs.

I didn't get an actual proposal but he surprised the crap out of me when he did it. we had already been looking at venue's and putting plans into motion. I knew he had the ring, I didn't know exactly which one though ( I gave him the choice of 3 but told him which one I loved lol) It was easter last year at we were at his moms when he gave me my ring. I was on the porch, he called me into the living room. I was a little annoyed because the dogs were barking and I was thinking "seriously what is it now" He was holding our son and he said "I think he has something for you" He had him hand me a giant plastic egg and it had my ring in it" I smiled, cried and asked "is this what I think it is?" he said " I don't know. What do you think it is" I just put it on kissed him and said thank you. It was so sweet & unique but not a "real" proposal because I think I put it on my finger before he could ask lol.

My dad said to my mom "open your hand" put the ring in and walked away. They had 25 beautiful, romance filled years before my dad passed away. So don't be discouraged by a simple proposal.

My first marriage, he proposed over the phone, while I was at my office. Second marriage, I did the proposing. I was so nervous that she sensed something amiss and thought I was mad at her. When I finally got the words out, it was something like, "So, what would you think of the idea of getting married?" Seriously, I'd rather have a good marriage with a bad (or no) proposal than a perfect proposal from the wrong person.

Holy drama batman! LOL (Sorry I disappeared, I only log in at work. hehe)

Thank you for your honest opinion Nadine. And thank you to the girls who actually read what I wrote: “So here I am very happily married. Never gave much thought to the lack of proposal or ring, until reading these stories. My husband is an amazing person. He’s done so many sweet, wonderful and romantic things for me and I am so grateful for every single one of them but I realized I’ll never get THAT special moment. **big sigh**”

I never meant for this to be a “I never got a proposal, feel sorry for me” post. After reading all those beautiful proposal stories, I was just having a little bit of an “awww” moment. It was just a brief realization that I never got that well planned, thought out proposal. That’s it. Just an observation. Who cares. I’m over it.

I know that what my husband and I have is very rare and special and Im thankful everyday for that. I have no regrets. I have his true, proven, unconditional love. He shows me everyday how much he loves me. I wouldn’t trade that for a million fancy proposals.

As far as the cheating thing. I could sit here and try to explain things but 1) aint no body got time for that And 2) Who really cares? People make mistakes. Teenagers are stupid. Im sure not one of you are the same person you were 20 yrs ago. We screw up. We learn from our mistakes. Learning from our past makes us who we are now. If didn’t go through the BS I did back then, I wouldn’t be as wonderfully awesome as I am today! Smiley winking

ACK! I got one for you! Why did I just remember this now. My EX boyfriend, proposed to me over an instant message!!!! HAHAHAH!!!!!

I was at work, and he was looking into buying a house (this is pre 2008 calamity). He said he talked to a mortgage guy and recommended we combined our finances and get married to look better on paper. So he writes, "So, uhh, I guess, want to get married then?" THAT was the beginning of the end to me. No moron, you ain't touching my money.

HisMrs - you didn't get the bended knee. That's ok, you get the best guy any woman could ever dream for! I think that's a great trade off Smiley smile
