I'm actually surprised I got proposed to. I'm always a little afraid when I am asked how he proposed b/c it wasn't "magical."

My step father never proposed to my mother. He tossed her the ring and that was it.

Oh and my proposal story (which I haven't really told yet) includes a kid swimming in the ocean shouting "It's a water snake! It's a water snake! It's a water snake!" Over and over and over. There was also another kid whining that no one would go swimming with him as he belly flopped into the inch deep water.

That's what I get for having a summer birthday and FH proposing to me on Sunset Beach in Cape May during Shoobie season.

Do you know how many times FH and I have yelled to each other "It's a water snake!" It's a story that's ours. :-)

Its absolutely awful to assume that the other people commenting "do that". HisMrs props to you for being able to admit your wrongs and face him after so many years! I believe you are a good person... some people are just mean.

FH and I had been together for about six months (and I was young and overwhelmed with emotions) so I asked him. He said yes, but then life happened and we never actually did anything or talked about it anymore. About five years (and several kids) later we started talking about it as being an obvious next step and began to actually plan, though we kept it to ourselves. His mother caught wind of it and basically said he was dumb to be with me and an idiot to consider marrying me. A huge fight ensued between us and his family, and when it all died down, the magic of the moment was gone and we lost the desire to plan. So three more years pass (and we have even more kids, a total of five now) and we decide that we want to get legally married (at this point it has lost the romance element and is more like talking about doing taxes). His mother comes over unexpectedly and sees some bride magazines then goes postal again. CONT.

FH wanted to do an "actual" proposal before anyone knew we were planning, but his mom went out and told all his side of the family and posted on FB, so we just started calling up the small handful that didn’t know and telling them. Everyone was kinda like “meh”, probably because we have been together for so long that everyone knew it was coming. Overall, the whole proposal process was very underwhelming, and I can completely understand what you mean about having the perfect guy but still wishing you had a proposal story…but for what it’s worth HisMrs., I think your story tops every proposal that I have ever heard.

I knew he was going to propose at some point but I didn't know when. He asked me how I wanted to be proposed to. I told him you have to figure that out but you at least have to say something nice to me. We were about to go out to dinner and he called into our bedroom to talk. He said so you want me to say something nice to you like I love you and I'm happy you're in my life (he said some other stuff but I can't remember). Then he said "Then, will you Marry Me?" as he pulls the ring out from behind his back. He didn't even get down on one knee. It sucked!!

We don't have a proposal story, but we do have a story. And I love it.
