Did anyone pick out their dress to match the grooms attire

CountryBride, on October 7, 2020 at 1:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Thank you all for your lovely advice, I am starting to get serious about my wedding dress, and I was advised that I need to follow the style of my fiance and what he is wearing, I am torn between going out on a ball gown when will be the next time I can wear a ball gown ? and going for a mermaid/ trumpet style. Our theme is Rustic Romance and country elegance, my fiance is going down in jeans a vest with a cowboy hat and tie, I don't want to show up in a full on ball gown if it's not going to look good any recommendations?

I think mermaid sounds like it fits better for your overall wedding but if you want to wear a ball gown I don’t see why not aha

I don’t think there’s any need for you to “follow the style of your fiancé”. He chose something he feels comfortable and confident in, and you should do the same. Go try on dresses and pick out one that makes you feel beautiful!

And if a ball gown feels too formal for you, try on some A-line dresses! They give you a similar silhouette, and can be a beautiful lace that would fit in perfect with your country/rustic/romance theme

While you don't need to "follow the style of my fiance and what he is wearing," I feel that a formally dressed bride next to an informally dressed groom looks like they didn't communicate at all about what they wanted their wedding to look like (especially if the venue and reception style suits one half of the couple more than the other).

That said, it is all about your personal choice and your attire certainly doesn't impact your guests in any way. So, wear what you like. But if you have already chosen rustic and country for your aesthetic, then it seems like you would prefer a more rustic and country appearance, which would also fit with what your groom is wearing.

You don't need to look identical but the level of formality should match

As Michele says, it certainly looks better in photos if you match your formality.

I chose a dress, then gave a picture of it to the BM so he could help DH match the *color* of his vest/tie. But... we kept our attire as a surprise until the day of.

The thing about wedding dresses, as Randy says on SYTTD... you never know what you're going to like until you try it on. So... go try on a bunch of dresses and see what you like (don't discount a mermaid, especially because you are tall!).

Also, you might need to talk to your FH, think about your venue, and see where you are, attire wise.

I don't think it needs to match, per say. However, if he is wearing jeans, you may want to go with something a little less formal than a ballgown. If your heart is set on a ballgown, would you fiancé be willing to wear dress pants instead of jeans?
