Did anyone regret doing their own makeup for their wedding day?

Im considering going to MAC to have them show me how to do my makeup for my wedding day (and buying the suggested products there also). I can do the basics but I don't wear makeup often so I guess I am looking for a refresher course of sorts. Did anyone do this? Did you regret it?

I hired a MUA to do the girls in the wedding make up. I can't wait to get dolled up with my girls! It will be a fun treat.

I paid to have mine done and I hated it! I could have and have done much better myself. I've seen plenty of brides here have beautiful make up and they were also smart and got trials. I was cheap, skipped a trial and wish I didn't because I never would have had her to do it. Do a trial at MAC but I would make sure the girl who does it that day does it the day if your wedding.

I am doing it myself. I think the OP should consider hiring someone simply because she sounds uncertain about her skills and says she doesn't normally wear makeup. I don't wear much makeup day to day but I am a junkie. I am into it, even if I don't cake it on every day. I don't think that's what it's about and obviously, my daily activities are much different from my wedding day. I did my cousin's bridal makeup because she didn't like how her MUA made her look and I think she turned out marvelous in photos (and in person). It doesn't stress me out. It will be fine to do your own makeup if you are comfortable doing it.

I wear makeup daily so I'm ok with doing the basics but I wouldn't attempt to do my makeup for my wedding. I would hire someone. Why add the extra stress on yourself anyway

If you don't wear makeup often I really don't suggest doing your own for your wedding. Basics are one thing, but wedding makeup is way more than basics. If you buy the wrong products you'll more than likely end up with flashback in your pictures. Flashback makes your entire face look white. That's not what you want to remember. A MUA has all kinds of foundation tones to mix the right ones to make your tone. I highly recommend not doing it yourself.

Also, there is a difference between a pro MUA and people who work at counters and makeup shops. Yes, at shops they know what they're doing most of the time and some may even be freelancing MUAs outside of work. However, I've had two makeovers at Sephora and both were terrible. I'm a makeup junkie but I'm not the best at picking and choosing and my artistry yet. One girl gave me terrible flashback and made me look ghostly white even in person. The other made me look like I had jaundice. They get some training but mostly they are there to sell. Just keep that in mind.

Pics last forever! It's worth the investment to pay a pro, and do a trial to make sure you and your pro understand exactly what you want. I was going to do my own until my mom gave the makeup as a gift, and the pictures look stunning as a result!

I'm considering doing my own makeup for my wedding and it has nothing to do with budget issues-- I just have this really weird phobia of anyone getting close to my eyes. I could not handle even a professional putting eyeliner or eye shadow on me. I don't wear make up often but I do know the basics. I've been watching YouTube tutorials and practicing at home like crazy. However, I am scared that I will regret not hiring a MUA because honestly I don't know how good it'll come out. Butttt on the other hand, I don't want to hire one and her not be able to do my make up because I'm freaking out about her getting near my eyes! Honestly I don't know what to do!

I found a freelanced makeup artist who is charging me 30 bucks for the big day and she does a great job just like any other makeup artist.

Hmm, I'm following this with interest because I had hoped to just do my makeup the way I normally do (on the rare occasion that I wear any at all). Now I'm waffling.

I think you'll spend just as much, if not more going to MAC. Plus, you don't want to worry about what it looks like or if you did a good job or not, drawing a straight line, erc. I did not regret having a professional do mine.

You can ask a beauty school for their best student! It might be cheaper than buying all this pro make-up yourself!

I just don't know how much money this would even save you. By the time you buy all the proper, good quality make-up, you might as well pay a MUA. You can get a decent MUA for $100 or less. You'll easily spend that on make-up.

ETA: photography makeup is different and you risk getting washed out pictures of not done right. I have 100% happy I got a MUA.

I did my makeup myself with assistance from my DIL. I had a few makeup trials & absolutely hated the way they did my makeup. It was not well blended & the color choices were horrible. Did not match my skin tone. I used to wear a full face of makeup years ago & wanted a fresh look so I watched a lot of youtube videos to get the technique down. I do not regret doing my own makeup & my Pro Photos came out great. I really wanted to have a MUA but just wasn't impressed with the ones I had trials with.

My daughter did my makeup. All I did was call my photographer and asked what colors to buy. She informed me what would photograph well. I bought the makeup for like $25 and my daughter applied it all except the mascara, that I applied myself. My makeup was great and I look beautiful in my photographs. I also didn't look fake. I didn't have a choice to pay a MUA. We do not have any MUA's in my area. They would had to come from Cincinnati, Ohio or Indianapolis, Indiana and I would of paid double just in travel expenses. I was like no thanks on that. So this was my only option. I did have my hair professionally done.

I did my own and I loved it - I had all the products, I only bought a small setting spray from Urban Decay and a longer lasting lip stain. I didn't have it in my budget to pay for makeup - I could have cut back on other things, but I love to do my own and do it pretty much every day. I love my pictures and think I looked great.

That being said - if you don't do your own makeup often or have professional products I would hire someone.

I didn't like the make up from my trial, so I'm doing my own. If you go to a nice make up store they will let you know what doesn't look good in photos. I would personally rather look good (and natural) in person than air brushed and good in photos. I mean will all your guests look terrible in photos? Will the groom look terrible or should he get airbrushed too??

I'm a makeup artist and I was a bride in September 2016 so I did my own makeup. I absolutely loved my look, but looking back I would've hired a professional because I was so excited and nervous the day of the wedding. I remember literally shaking trying to put my lashes on because I was so excited, lol. I wish I would've had someone cater to me so that I didn't have to worry about all of that!

The big difference is for her as a BM the makeup is significantly cheaper than as the bride. I just got my quotes for hair and makeup and it's making me want to barf.

I did my own makeup and hair for my wedding a month ago. Wanted to look like myself and not super crazy like some pros do.
