Did i get a dress that will outshine me?

Hannah, on January 13, 2020 at 11:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
When I was shopping for dresses, my mindset was that I want a cool stand-out dress. And I got this gorgeous couture gown for sample sale price! It's a super cool dress, but I'm worried the intricate design makes me look shorter and wider, and the dress outshines me.
I'm so anxious these days that I picked the cool dress rather than a dress that really flattered me and makes me shine. I didn't originally want to have a traditional simple looking gown, but now I've changed my mind? I tried on one many traditional looking gowns that looked so lovely, but I denied them because they weren't interesting enough.
Tempted to go back and plead for an exchange? I haven't altered it yet. 6 months until my wedding. How flexible are these places with final sale contracts?Or should I run with the risk and try to pull off the cool looking gown? I'm scared I'll have that "you're not wearing the dress, the dress is wearing you" vibe...

With sample sales at bridal salons all sales are final. And they will not back down from that. The reason being that the designer doesn’t make the dress anymore so there is no reason for them to keep the dress in store. Do you have a picture of the dress? I’m sure you look great in it!

Pull your shoulders back and put on your internal Lizzo soundtrack. You'll rock it.

I think when you go for alterations, they will make sure the dress fits though in the most flattering way, and not make you look short and wide.

I'm guessing that if you picked a unique dress like that, you probably have the personality to go with it, and don't need to worry about anything outshining you on your wedding day.

Go for it! You gave just once to look absolutely unique n couture. I bought a very different dress also. It's sheer with feathers. It's totally different than anything I or anyone else seen someone get married in our families. I'm usually quiet neighborhood more laid back buuuut I do have style I'm just turning it alllll the way up for our special day. Everyone will be so surprised by my look and that's what I'm going for that "wow" factor throughout our wedding.

I've gotten through my bridal attire meltdown! Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I did some research, and having second thoughts on a gown is a thing. I just had to remind myself that I picked the gown because it made me feel special, and alterations will make it fit me just right!
Writing on this forum definitely helped me express my bottled up concerns. Brides on this site are so nice and supportive!
