Did someone proofread your vows?

Alicia, on October 9, 2018 at 4:12 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 15

So I've just written my vows. Yay me! So glad I thought to Google samples, it really helped me frame what I wanted to say.

But did you practice with someone else or have them proofread it? I don't necessarily want anyone make changes but I want to make sure it makes sense and that I'm not just rambling.

Nope! My vows are what I want to say to FH and if I'm happy with them then that is all that matters because its coming straight from my heart.

No one will hear my vows until I'm at the alter.

For me, no, I'll be the only one. BUT I've seen plenty of women post them on these forums for proof reading, which is totally fine if you want!

Our officiant did - just to make sure it made sense, we weren't repeating ourselves, etc. He also wants to use them as the framework for how he crafts his ceremony message. He's a family friend of FH so he wanted to make sure this one was extra personal and sounded like "us"

Ooo this is a good idea. I'll ask our officiant if he wants to do this.

Hey Alicia!! I think showing your officiant your vows would be a good idea for proofreading reasons and whatnot, but also because they will be able to tell you if you're missing anything on the legal side of vows. Just in case! Smiley smile

No one will hear my vows. However, I did suggest that my Fiance go over his with someone else because I don't think he really knows what he is doing Smiley smile I plan to read mine out loud several times beforehand so that I don't stumble over my words and it all flows. I find that if you are stumbling, there is something wrong with what you have written. Either it isn't natural to how you would speak or maybe the sentence structure is off. So if you don't read them out loud to someone else, keep that in mind.

My officiant reviewed my vows and compared them with FH's vows to make sure they were not only perfect individually but perfect together. Smiley smile

Our officiant offers to read our vows so that it can roll smoothly with the ceremony and make any changes if necessary to do so. I would not read them to anyone other than FH and he has to wait until wedding day so I am going to send them to my officiant and have her go over them for us and hopefully that will be all that we need.

I am marrying a wordsmith. I totally had one of my English teacher friends proof. Not to change anything but to correct grammar. Cause he would notice. He says it wouldn’t bother him. Be he also corrects me when I use wrong grammar and I don’t want him focusing on that

To mirror PP’s, we too are having our officiant read our vows beforehand. I wanted to make sure that they were comparable in length, made sense, and then she could structure the ceremony around them. She was able to give some good insight... I would definitely recommend this if you feel comfortable!

I showed mine to my MOH originally but I've revised them like 10 times since then lol. I was going to show her the updated version but I kinda like that no one will see it until the ceremony. I'm glad I got her opinion to begin with, and she'll know a few pieces of it that are the same, but I'm also glad I have a new version that no one has heard yet
