Did you announce your engagement on social media before telling your family?

Here’s a shocking stat - in 2017, 10% of parents found out about their kid's engagement via social media! Did you share your proposal & engagement on your twitter, instagram, or facebook before telling your family? Or did you make sure your family was the first to know before your social media...

Time to confess! Are you innocent or guilty?

    That would be a negative.

Believe it or not, I don't have any social media other than here and Pinterest.

He posted that we got engaged on FB 6 months after it happened haha

Absolutely not. We called his parents, my parents, and then grandparents before we put it on social media. When my brother got engaged, his fiancé put it on facebook right away, like 15 minutes after. My grandmother was so hurt that she had to find out on facebook.

Nope... We celebrated on our own for 3 days, and then told our parents... then like a month later we posted on facebook because we assume the important people in our lives had already been told! Smiley laugh

Both my parents knew before he asked me. My mom helped with the ring and he asked my dad for his blessing. We made sure that immediate family and closest friends knew within the first 24-36 hours. Then an email went out from my mom to her family and my dad to his letting them know. Then we announced on social media

We never really put in on Facebook when it happened. We saw his family for the holidays the next day, and I called mine. Called/texted a few of the closest friends as well. Most people found out through gossip or seeing us out and about. I posted an "E-pic" album 6 months after the engagement and Facebook friends found out then. A few still didn't put 2+2 together.

I told my family and close friends first, I waited two weeks to post my engagement on social media. I wanted to enjoy my engagement before announcing it to the world.

Hi Brandy! That's a great way to keep your engagement news & excitement internal for a little while, with just yourselves & close friends and family first and foremost. Thank you for sharing!

We didn't announce our engagement on facebook at all. We try and keep our private life to ourselves.

I made sure I got in touch with close family and friends ASAP. My FH let some friends know ahead of time to meet us at a local bar for drinks that night too (surprise!!) I waited a day or two and then posted. Apparently my aunt made a congratulations post before my announcement but she didn’t tag us so only her friends could see it. My cousins beat her up for that one! Lol

We personally called or saw every member of both families first. The announcement was expected by our friends and family. When we set a date after talking it over with the family we began to plan. Amazingly 60 days before the ceremony we went to city hall and purchased a license and announced how excited we are the date is so near. My SIL (to be at the time) lost her mind and freaked out because she wasn't with us to get the paperwork and make our binding legal and permanent. She also was upset over the date she helped pick. The drama only grew from there and now I know she will always be my least favorite family member.

After he proposed, we drove to both of our families' houses to share the news and celebrate with them, which was so much fun! I also called some other family members and friends to let them know. I ended up posting an announcement and a few pictures on Facebook that night, and although part of me does wish I had waited a little longer and just enjoyed the entire day with FH and our families... I was just too excited! (Plus, we got engaged March 30, and I thought if I waited and posted something too close to April 1, I'd have to deal with people asking me if it was a joke haha!)

NO! I HAD TO tell both of our families before I posted even though I was across the country. So I called and told them. Then i posted the next day.
