Did you do a tasting for the rehearsal dinner?

Erica, on April 24, 2013 at 11:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Our RD is being done by a different caterer than the reception. We did a tasting for the reception food, but RD caterer said nothing about a tasting. Is it customary to do a tasting for this? I'd rather just not have another thing to add to my list but I don't want gross food to show up either. Thoughts?

Edit - it's at a hotel and they don't have a caterer on site so we had to find someone.

    Informally, maybe?

Our rehearsal dinner will be at one of two restaurants. FH and I plan to have dinner at both places to check them out.

I've never heard of a formalized tasting like you would for a wedding, but I'm sure people have done it.

Hmm, I never heard of a tasting for a rehearsal dinner, but that sounds awesome if they do let you! They may look at you kind of funny for asking, but who cares.

Never heard of this for a RD? Is there a ton of people going that you need to make sure the food is good? I think its pointless unless it's free of course lol!

We didn't. We just went there for dinner one night. Now I kind of wish we had asked for a tasting just to see if they would have done it!

Ours is at a local restaurant, not in the hotel. So we have eaten their food before and loved it. I would imagine you just have to ask to do one though, or if it is a restaurnat, go there for dinner sometime.

Ours is also in a restaurant that we have been to many times! So technically no, but we know the food is good and are picking certain items for our personalized menu!

How fancy are you going for the RD. If it's something like fried chicken or something informal than you really don't need one. If it's a white table cloth fancy kind of RD where they're serving food that you or your guests haven't really eaten before than it'd probably be more worth having a tasting and they're probably used to putting on a tasting, so I'd ask.

One wasn't offered to us but we're doing ours at a restaurant. So I asked what the most common things people order are and we're just going to go there for dinner one night.

We are having a caterer do ours, but had no tasting. I didn't ask either, because I have heard from multiple people that their food is always fabulous.
