Did you end up with the dress you dreamed of?

This is a fun thread, great idea!


When I started dress shopping, I didn't really have anything specific in mind. I anticipated that I would probably end up buying an A-line gown, and was totally opposed to mermaid style gowns. And, after trying on all kinds of styles... I ended up with a mermaid style dress! The first dress is what I anticipated buying (maybe not that exact one, but likely something similar). The second dress is similar to what I bought (mine is ivory/ivory instead of nude/ivory, and I'm making a few other modifications to it). I did not think I'd buy something with a long train, and ended up loving the long train.

I went in knowing what I wanted (left) and ended up getting it custom made because I literally couldn't find it anywhere (trustworthy). It came out HORRIBLY and I returned it and got refunded. I went dress shopping afterward and was pretty much forced to only get ballgown options for the most part.

Although they were beautiful and I found a couple that could possibly be it, there was still something keeping me from choosing either of them. I took some extra time and searched online as well. After finding the beauty on the right, it was a wrap. I bought it and I am still very much in love with it.

Thanks!! Me too. It definitely took a minute before I found it and I was like that's crazy. I got it off Stillwhite and I was actually pretty shocked how many times the dress was viewed but never bought. It's like it was meant to be.

Here's mine, I went for a demitrios gown, they actually sold it and did not have one for me to try on. I ended up with a casablanca wedding dress.

I went into dress shopping really committed to getting sleeves on my dress, lots of sparkle, and a sort of floral, whimsical lace, no matter the silhouette. I was thinking something similar to the first two pics (same dress pictured with and without the bishop sleeves). When I tried on dresses, however, sleeves just didn’t seem to work too well on me, and even though I loved the sparkle of some of them, none of the silhouettes really hit the mark for me. Then I tried on the bottom dress and absolutely loved how I looked and felt in it! No sleeves, minimal sparkle, and more of a regal, geometric lace to it. I didn’t want to take it off! Wouldn’t have ever thought to try it on, but I adore it and can’t wait to wear it for my wedding!

I really wanted a black lace and tulle wedding dress and be the cool, edgy, alternative bride..but when the time came for shopping I couldn't find any black dresses I liked so I tried something a little more classic and traditional and fell in love with this satin ballgown.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted mermaid, a-line or fit and flare. Before my appointment I looked through all the dresses at the boutique that were in my price range and fell in love with a fitted dress.
I tried it on in the store and loved it even more on me. Tried on 6 dresses only because I knew it was the one.

I thought I was for sure going to get an a-line in blush like this:


But I got a drop waist fit and flare in ivory over light gold instead—and no sleeves!

I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted. I was thinking of a corset back & not puffy.

And this is what I fell in love with!

What I thought I wanted and did buy

I ended up designing my own dress which I am IN LOVE with.

My dress definitely ended up very close to what I had hoped for! Sometimes you just know!

WHAT A FUN POST! For the fairest comparison, I didn't use a wedding picture; they're both in the showroom.

I didn’t have a specific dress in mind... more of an idea of what I wanted. I knew I loved the off shoulder mermaid silhouette in lace with a train (similar to the two pictures below).


I ended up with a white Oleg Cassini off shoulder (soft) mermaid silhouette with lace, sequins, and a train. When I first started looking at dresses, I hated sequins but this dress made them look so delicate and intricate.

I only knew for sure that I wanted lace, preferably all over lace, and a fit and flair style. My dress was that, more mermaids, and off the shoulder, which hadn’t crossed my mind before I tried it.

Okay, first of all I’m freaking obsessed with your dress! So pretty and so unique. I love it!!!!

I went into wedding gown shopping with about 25 favorites lol. Most were fit and flare or A-line. Here were the top 2 on my list...

So... I did end up picking one of the dresses!!!

I knew for sure I wanted something with lace or pretty appliques, and I wanted a flowy dress similar to this first picture. But when I went to my first bridal boutique, they showed me the most beautiful dress that was a totally different style, and I bought it!
