Did you help pick your ring?

Did you help or have any input into your engagement ring, or was it a total surprise? I would love some pics of your rings! I'll put mine at the end of the post. it's on the correct hand, for some reason it showed backwards I had no input in the ring choice. I had NO idea he was ready to propose to...

I had no input in the ring choice. I had NO idea he was ready to propose to me. He was working when he picked out my ring. He say the jewelers and stopped. He loved the ring he picked and so do it. We had never discussed rings or style of them, but it's as though he got into my head and picked my dream ring! I love the antique look of it. I knew I didn't want gold and he must have somehow figured that out. He didn't want my input because he knows I would have picked something smaller because i'm frugal (ok he says cheap) but I wouldn't change my ring for anything. It has a pretty band with that attached on our big day.

    That ring is amazing!

I always insisted we didn’t need a formal marriage as we live together as spouses and introduce each other as spouses and I would vote on like 0 budget for the ring and wedding lol

i would have been happy with 50 bucks of gold if he really insisted he wanted me to wear a band at least

    but
I am a Lord of the rings fan and years ago when others were getting married I used to joke that I would only marry whoever could get me the actual precious

Probably years later: we even looked up one day who made the rings and learned about Jens Hansen in New Zealand

fast forward a couple of years again and he’s back on “legal” marriage... we had been together for like 11-12 years probably and I said
i said Too bad Gollum lost the precious because I actually would marry whoever could give me Sauron’s One Ring of Power; just to never hear this again

so apparently he immediately starting saving and ordered the ring from the actual jeweler who made the movie props and had them include special and unique extra like phots and letters.

im unaware of any of this, of course

My SO took me “ring shopping” the weekend before he proposed and probably had my ring in his pocket

he was a little too laughy that day and apparently received it the Wednesday before lol

I’m not suggesting that’s what’s happening but guys are unpredictable

even the predictable ones sometimes lol

18k solid gold (incredibly thick, heavy ring) cost 2000 thanks to duty changes under trump

He proposed when we went out of town for his birthday and from the ring and how much time he put into it plus our mutual love of Tolkien’s legendarium it grew into a full on Middle Earth wedding... but I can honestly saw it’s fun to plan and I definitely would not probably be willing to do the planning or face the expense if my fiancé had landed on anything other than lotr lol

    he knew I couldn’t resist!

in the end I guess I would say I chose my perfect ring but he still surprised me with it

We shopped for rings together. As with the rest of our relationship, we approached this as a partnership. We decided together that we wanted to get married. It would have seemed silly and staged to then have him go look for a ring and propose, when we’d already made the decision together to move forward toward marriage. I also would not want him to have to hide anything from me in terms of finances - which he would have had to do if he’d bought a ring behind my back.

So we began looking at rings together. I knew I didn’t want yellow gold, a halo style, or a weird shape. I knew I didn’t want more than 0.5-0.75ct; my fingers are long and slender and anything larger just looks garish and gaudy on me. Other than that I really didn’t know what I wanted. After we started looking we both gravitated toward antique pieces. We looked at new rings and also met with a designer but it just didn’t feel right. We ended up finding THE ring that we both loved - an estate piece, circa 1940, platinum, .75ct. Just perfect on my finger and perfect for us.

When we found THE ring, we bought it, and that was the day we became engaged. No games or shenanigans about a proposal. I do wish we had looked a little nicer that day; we went ring shopping again on a whim after doing yard work, not expecting to find THE ring that day, so we happened to look like hoboes in the pic. Haha 😆

Our method suited us very well. ☺️

I had hardly any input in my ring! All he knew was that I wanted to use stones from a ring my grandmother gave me before she passed on. When that wasn’t able to happen, he used the ring as inspiration! Truly a wonderful and meaningful surprise!

I had no input and no clue. Really happy that he picked what he liked and thought that I’d like. It’s a unique ring and I love it.

My FH has been talking about putting a ring on me since we met 3 years ago. After 2 years of him talking about it, and complaining of not know what I’d like, I put together a Pinterest board and told him about it. Little while after that he starts joking about getting me a size 27 since he didn’t know my size. So I ordered a ring sizer, took a picture of it on my finger, and sent it to him. That’s as much of a help I was! Right up until he proposed, I had no idea it was coming. I mean he had been talking about it for 3 YEARS! Haha oh and my ring ended up being a combination of everything from my Pinterest board. Smiley heart

He picked it out, but we had been sharing pictures and links back and forth for a while.

I picked mine out and then he acted like he didn’t buy it yet and surprised me with a proposal the next week.

I picked mine out years before the proposal.
We have been together nearly 7 years now and we both work at a pawn shop together.
He knew i wanted white gold, either 3 stone or center with smaller group of side stones.
A ring i loved came in the shop and i was going to buy it for myself cause i love those style of rings i even have a few as pinky rings
He did as he always does and asked to buy it for me, i usually refuse but seeing as this was exactly what i wanted for an engagement ring and it was the perfect size i told him sure, but only if you propose with it when youre ready. He pulled out the cash and then He waited about 3 1/2 years to propose.

I took my FH to Macy's and showed him the rings that I liked vs the ones that I didn't. He went back there on his own to buy the ring he gave me.

We knew when we wanted to get married but my FS wanted to propose and have the fun of picking out the ring themself. All I was asked was what stone I liked (I said amethyst, emerald or a pale blue stone - aquamarine or artificial), whether I preferred yellow or white gold (yellow) and they tried to sneakily measure my finger with string sitting on the couch one night before giving in and asking my ring size. I knew the ring was coming and signed for the delivery (they designed it with a jeweler online) when it arrived but they waited a couple weeks and proposed when I least expected it. It was amazing and my ring is perfect.

I had no input with picking my ring. The whole engagement was a surprise. Who would have known that he figured me out enough to design the absolute perfect ring or was it perfect simply because it came from the heart?🤷🏾‍♀️I love it. I do have a friend who designed her entire ring through the whole process. She just wants her engagement to be a surprise. To each it’s own.

I helped pick out mine, I was pretty set on having a marquise solitaire diamond with a plain band.

Helped picked mine, FH purposed to me while we were on vacation Maui during sunset and had a cute turtle ring as a placeholder because I was so indecisive on what style I liked but when we got back went to pick one out together and he wanted to make sure I loved it and I do ❤️

I made sure he knew what I liked, but he picked out the actual ring himself. I went to a couple jewelry stores and created wish-lists for him to go by. I gave him the business cards for those stores. I had marked one ring as my super #1 absolute favorite. That’s the ring he tried to buy me but every jeweler warned him against it. (The way it was designed, it was more prone to losing the center stone as well as the stones on the prongs.) He ended up taking ideas from my wish-list and picking out something on his own, but it’s exactly what I wanted: round solitaire with a diamond band.

I helped pick to an extent! He asked what I liked and didn’t like and we looked at a few pictures together but ultimately he picked.
