Did you hire security for your wedding and was it expensive?

Kayla, on March 16, 2017 at 11:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

My venue is requiring us to hire a security guard. Is that normal and if so how much did you pay for yours?

My venue provides 2 security guards at the door for us--included in the venue cost.

I've heard of it. We have had some "security" for other parties. Cost depends on area. Expect to pay $100-$150 an hour. (That is including tip)

I would hope to not need security at my wedding, but FH jokes that we wouldn't need it anyway. He is a 6th degree black belt in karate and a black belt in jiu jitsu. We've invited all of his fellow instructors and many of his students. About 1/4 of our wedding guests are black belts or higher in Judo, BJJ, karate, and/or Muay Thai. A couple are MMA fighters lol.

Our venue requires it if you're serving alcohol. I believe we are paying $35/hr for each officer....$350 total.

We are doing two security for $400 for the night. Our venue "highly recommends it" (basically required) and honestly it'll just ease my mind a lot. If anything happens or someone gets belligerent, I don't have to think twice about it. Definitely worth the $400 just for the peace of mind!

I work as a police officer and we have a wedding venue in the city I work for. They hire us every weekend for security and the bride and groom are required to pay us $30/hr. Honestly I have never been needed at a single wedding and it seems a little pointless sometimes but there was an officer working there one night and called out a large fight that went to the parking lot. They were glad to have us then. A lot of placed require it for liability issues with underage drinking or people leaving the venue drunk and getting into a car

I have not hired a security guard yet, but I for certain will. I have a psychotic cousin who will probably make a scene, my friend wants to bring a creep who is a stalker/criminal and it is quite possible that my sister's friends may get in a brawl. Security will be helpful. I will pay a generous amount so as to stop these incidents and have unruly guests escorted out.
