Did you make your own wedding programs?

Sarah, on February 25, 2014 at 11:36 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

Hey ladies! Smiley smile So, In an effort to keep the budget down, I was thinking about making my own wedding programs. The problem is I have no clue where to start! Can anyone offer me some advice on programs I can use, or sites with free templates that can be downloaded? I would ideally like to customize colors and fonts and things of that nature, but I am also a beginner at this kind of stuff, and don't want to get in over my head. Was this an easy task to tackle for you? What kind of paper should I use? I'm thinking of doing a greeting card style with a vertical fold. Any and all advice you can offer would be greatly appreciative!

I am planning on doing ours myself. I've been looking at some templates that I can purchase from people on Etsy, but I think I can do it all on my own. I am trying to decide on whether I'm going to do it on cardstock or on just a heavy weight fancy paper. I also can't decide if I want to do a vertical or horizontal fold, make it short or long...

I just used a template from Microsoft Publisher and bought 65 lb cardstock from the store. It was actually really easy to make them. I wouldn't buy thicker cardstock if you are planning on folding them and I probably wouldn't buy much thinner cardstock if you want them to feel nice and not flimsy. If you want to do some kind of non-traditional format and make your program a little more fun, try searching on pinterest for different ideas

Start with Microsoft Publisher. They have a bunch of different templates you can download and then you customize the font and colors and images as you like. If you can't find anything you like there, I would take a look at Etsy. But start with Microsoft since they are free, and it will help you get an idea of what you are looking for. Plus, you could print off test programs with different folds to see what you like without having to pay for the templates first.

I designed mine on Publisher, and I'm printing on ivory cardstock. Good luck!

If you need to know a little more about cardstock, I had a question right before I did mine and people were really helpful on here

I made mine in MS Word. I just split the paper up like a brochure and went at it. I had a LOT of info to put in mine though. Here's one side of it for reference.

I designed mine completely. I use the program Adobe InDesign. It's incredibly easy & so helpful. It shows you how everything aligns straight & all that. I download free fonts from darfont.com. They have millions to choose from.

Then, I did my research. I looked for inspo on Pinterest & wedding sites.

I haven't printed mine yet since we're still around 7 months out, but I loved making them myself.

I plan on turning them into fans. Smiley smile Sticks are available at Michael's for relatively cheap.

If you need, I can make them for you. I love doing this sort of thing. I'd love to Pay It Forward & help out a fellow bride.

Here's the example of mine. The picture is sort of small, since I had to cut down the jpg. size for WW regulations.

I bought a pre-made template from Etsy for $8 that fit my overall theme and color scheme. I edited it and printed it on cream colored cardstock. They were perfect. There are also free online templates - trying Wedding Chicks and a Microsoft Word.
