Did you register for fine china and crystal?

csquid, on April 4, 2014 at 2:46 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 33

Yesterday I decided to start our registries online because the bridal shower invites will be going out within the next week or so. My question is: did you register for fine china and crystal? If so, what did you choose? It seems like a big decision because they're so expensive and I'm having a hard time choosing.

We just registered for fine china - Monique Lhuillier Waterford Dinnerware Etoile Platinum is the specific style we chose.

We registered for this Mikasa pattern.

We just looked through patterns at the store where we registered (BB&B). We liked the simplicity of this pattern, so it wasn't too hard for us to choose.

I think the china is definitely worth the space it'll take up. I'm not sure about the crystal though. Plus my FH has (self proclaimed) "gorilla hands" and manages to crush/break things easily. I know if he did that to a $50 wine glass I'd probably be upset.

I didn't, but I'm 39 and already have a nice set that ive used for 15 years for thanksgiving, special occassions, etc. If you don't own a "nice" set of dinnerware I would highly recommend registering for some.

We registered for Mikasa Love Story, it included glasses, china, and silverware. I wasn't going to at first, but FH wanted to.

We registered for Kate Spade Larabee road. It's got silver polka dots on it and it wasove at first sight.

I have been obsessed with polka dots since I was a little girl, and I wanted something neutral. It may not be to others, but to me it's neutral and timeless. If I haven't grown tired of polka dots in 20 years, I won't in another 20.

We did, for multiple reasons: 1.) FH and I are very much looking forward to entertaining for holidays, 2.) One of my bridesmaids is married and has always regretted not registering for china...I've learned from her mistake, and 3.) My mom still has and uses on every holiday the china that she was given for her bridal shower. It is now over 30 years old, and has been a staple for a lot of our family memories, and I would love to have a set like that myself, that I am still using 50 years from now.

We chose the Kate Spade Larabee line because the colors are neutral and will go with just about any tablescape we want to use, and because it has a polka dot pattern that I love, since I adore polka dots Smiley smile

    ETA: @Hayley, china twin!

I had fine china on my registry but then I removed it. I decided that we wouldn't be hosting holidays often enough to make it worthwhile. Plus because of extended family if/when we do get a chance to host, we will need a lot more than 4 or 5 sets of china. As fine china is costly, I decided I prefer the more casual sets so I just kept the "everyday" dinnerware on my registry.

I didn't and I won't. The only time we had non-family over in a large group was a super bowl party and we had the worst fight ever in our almost seven years of being together. Dinner parties will never be our thing. We have plenty of regular wine glasses. We don't need crystal. I usually only drink water anyway, out of a tervis tumbler with a straw.

Ok. That all makes sense, thanks! We have family over for holiday dinners at least once/year now and it'll probably be even more often after we're married and have children. It sounds like people think it's worth it if you'll use it. I think I'd regret not at least registering for it because I'll want it later in life.

No fine china here. We did register for a nicer set of stoneware dishes for company, but they weren't china by any means. We would never use it.

    @Julia Beth!

Yay! FH and I are the same way, we definitely will be hosting a lot of holidays! I'm in live with it, I already have so many fun tablescapes in my head.

Yay! I think that'll be exciting, seeing when things are purchased Smiley smile

I was originally dreading this part (registering) but since I can do it online, it's kinda fun!

    We registered for this set

    http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/noritake-reg-regina-5-piece-place-setting-in-platinum/1013252386?skuId=13252386®istryId=541012237

My mom and both of my grandmothers own a set of china that is older than me. It's a staple in our holiday meals and I want a set of my own to build those memories with my family too Smiley smile

FH and FMIL both thought I was crazy for registering for it. They use paper plates at holiday meals and think it's a huge waste. I guess our different backgrounds show when it comes to this. But I really hope I get my china Smiley smile
