My fiance and I started planning about a month after we got engaged! We use the checklist on The Knot (though Wedding Wire also has a checklist you can use!), and also the budget tools on The Knot to help keep us on track. These forums have been a*m*a*z*i*n*g for helping us as well! I don't really use wedding TV shows or movies to help plan, since most of that is either way out of our budget or just not realistic. We got advice from my sister (whose wedding was just a few years ago) when we were looking at booking vendors and figuring things out, and my fiance and I also made every single wedding decision together (choosing vendors/venue, decor, etc). We referenced Pinterest for ideas too, though kept budget in mind as well.

Hi ! We started planning 9 months before the wedding (we choose a date knowing that our venue would be available in 9 months), but it was 1,5 year after the proposal, we got engaged before living together, we didn't want to marry right away, but just to be official.

We started planning a couple weeks after getting engaged (which was in April 2021) but that was because we knew we wanted to get married in fall 2022 and that 2022 dates were booking FAST. Now that all our bigger things are booked, we're just enjoying being engaged and taking a break from planning.

I bought a planner off of Etsy. That along with WiddingWire's website has been very helpful. Especially considering there are a lot more bumps along the way with a micro wedding than expected! I have gotten a LOT of advice from my sister-in-law whom only married into the family two years ago. She planned her whole wedding on her own with impeccable money saving strategies along the way. I recommend asking those that have recently gotten married rather than those that have not or did years ago. Their knowledge just isn't relevant to todays weddings expectations, abstract thinking and market.

I started the next day, lol. Not serious planning though. I downloaded the knot app and wedding wire. I started searching timelines and such. We got engaged while at Disney and I wanted to get married there, so we stopped by to get some Information.
We set a date about 2 weeks after we got engaged and I went to bridal show. We didn’t lock in any vendors until we’d been engaged about 4 months (9.5 months before the big day), but I did research for about 2 months before that.
I did get my dress and veil right away. We’d been engaged for about a month. I was anticipating it taking longer and having to order it. But, I bought it off the rack so I took it home that day. I didn’t watch any tv or movies, but I did get on Pinterest a lot. Getting ideas and looking up timelines and check lists. I also got a couple of different wedding magazines and planners right away for guidance and ideas.

We got engaged 10/17/2020 and we started planning in March 2021. We were waiting for hours brother's wedding this month, but they canceled and did a courthouse wedding, so we started after.

I booked my venue about 13 months out and then started working on my guest list next. I have used Pinterest for decoration ideas and Brides, The Knot, and Wedding Wire for lists, etc.

Check out Jamie Wolfer on YouTube and her website, she has lots of timeline videos so you don't get burnt out thinking you are not doing enough all at once. Set your budget first and STICK TO IT! It's hard but you won't be as stressed. Don't use movies or other peoples weddings to compare to unless they are in the same budget range!

    Congrats!

We got engaged Christmas Day 2020, and I started planning pretty quickly after that by hitting up Pintrest and getting ideas.

We toured venues early January and booked ours mid January, we knew we wanted fall 2022, and I knew I wanted labor day weekend is possible and the venue we loved still had the friday before opened so I scopped it up cause I knew 2022 was gonna fill up. We then booked all the big vendors soon after like photographer and DJ and I already knew who my HMUA was gonna be so I let her know the date.

I plan on DIYing all of our signage so I just bought all the stuff to start practicing that.

I'll be honest... we have been planning FOREVER. And no- that is not an exaggeration. We have been together for 8 years, and have talked about our wedding day since the beginning. Full blown planning started over two years ago, with finding the right venue and our special date.

Pinterest and Bridal Shows have been my best friend through all of the planning we have done. We have everything pretty much booked and paid on for our wedding day. I am doing ALL of our signage and my mom is making the desserts.

Just takes a lot of patience and a strong understanding of what is important to you on your special day.

I love planning events. So I got started pretty quickly. Whenever I plan a party I think about what kind of event I would like, look for inspiration (in this case: Vogue Weddings, Pinterest, Brides, Harper's Baazar, general wedding searches on Google). Some good wedding shows and movies are Four Weddings, Say Yes to the Dress, Bridesmaids, Bride Wars, and the Wedding Planner. I also looked at venues because venues can really help determine the type of event you'll have. Even though I'm really good with planning I got a wedding planner because they know the industry and vendors. It's also great to bounce off ideas with people who do this for a living. I mainly use Wedding Wire and the Knot just to keep myself on track with their checklist, guest list, and seating chart features.
