Hello! I read in an article to use credit card to pay for some purchases on your wedding day to earn points etc. Did you do that, and what did you pay for?

Yes. Banking MAD points. I always pay off my CC at the end of the month, though.

My venue took checks but my dress, photographer, etsy purchases were all credit off the top of my head

A lot of my vendors gave us a cash discount (like it was $150 off the florist to do it with a check). So the major vendors were cash and anything like the honeymoon or a tangible "item" was with the credit card (in cases like with etsy, it helped when I had to dispute).

We are using our credit card for everything including our honeymoon except the officiant fee (he wanted cash) and the final venue payment which will be minimal. We pay the card off immediately to avoid any fees.

We are using one and paying it off every month. Getting lots of points so we can use it for the honeymoon. Smiley smile

I do it one of two ways.. if a vendor will give me a better price, i contract to pay my entire bill in cash (so some of my deposits i did with cash)

if not, i use my captial one venture card and pay it right off.. great for the miles and will hopefully help out with the honeymoon!

Sue M. Definitely look into it first before you get too excited. My card has checks too but they're typically meant for balance transfers and have a interest fee at the time of use. (I have like 3 different credit cards and all their checks work the same way) you have to pay 1-3% on every transaction you do with a check and then the check doesn't count toward points.

We are using cash and Amex for everything we can. We earn cash back on the Amex and pay it off each month, so it is like saving money. If you aren't in a position to earn credit card rewards or pay it off each month, ask if there is a discount for paying in cash. We've done that for some of our vendors.

We're doing all of our initial deposits on a Credit Card we got that gives us travel points.

Like Janeen said most of our vendors wont charge us tax if we pay cash so all of the rest of the payments are being sent through by cash and some by check.

But all of the other little stuff we need to get goes on the card.

I will say like most everyone else said, we had already opened up a wedding bank account that we put a good amount of money into we are paying off the card as we go through that account. But sometimes the points cards you have to have a balance for a few months in order for the points to reflect so I wouldn't recommend paying if off to zero every month

This is BRILLIANT and my FH and I are kicking ourselves for not thinking of this. We didn't put anything on credit. We paid cash for everything.

We opened an Am/Ex with the Starwood prefers club, to earn points for our honeymoon next year. We have enough points to fly to EU in coach, but we are hoping to be able to upgrade to business class.

I wish we had started sooner. We missed some big ticket expenses that would have been nice to put on the card.

We pay it off every month and no interest has accumulated.

We enrolled in a United Mileage plus Visa card just for wedding related expenses. The first purchase on the card got us 35,000 bonus miles.

Isn't the United Card great FutureMrsLepelis? I also signed up to take surveys to earn miles. I do it while I watch TV and get 50 miles here and there. They add up Smiley smile

No. We are a strictly cash couple. Not just for the wedding, but for everything other than cars and our house. If we don't have cash we don't buy it. Can't go over budget that way

Trisha - YES! it's wonderful. My dad has the United Presidential card, he is in their like 1million miles club. United is my preferred airline since my local airport is their hub. I have a survey account too that I can get United Miles for, but rarely do the surveys. If they come through when I am at work i do them, but i don't have a real computer at home - only an Ipad

My parents are very generously paying for our wedding, and I am sure that they will use their Amex for most of the purchases. We are only in the first few months of planning, and luckily the venue accepts that card. My dad has tons of points that he gains from traveling, so this will just add to his pile!

I use a credit card to pay for everything, and so does FH. We get United Airlines miles for all our purchases. We pay off the balances in full every month.

If you know with 100% certainty that you can pay it off in full every month, it's like getting free stuff. If you carry a balance, forget it.
