Did your florist provide you with mockups or specific quotes?

I met with a potential florist last week and provided her with pictures of some bouquets and centerpieces that I like. She mentioned that several of the flowers were more expensive and that she could substitute cheaper flowers if I was okay with that, which I am. She just sent a "quote" for the bouquets, corsages, and centerpieces but they are all price ranges and don't mention any of the specific flower types. There are also no photos or indications as to what these prices would include. I get that I have time to decide what I want, but I kind of want some more details before I commit to her.

Is this typical for a florist? Should I look for another option?

I got a detailed quote with a specific price per arrangement. She will do a mock-up two months prior to the wedding where we can make changes and adjustments.

Our consultation was very basic, and over the phone. We found the bridal bouquets we wanted on a Teleflora site, then called the nearest Teleflora florist to our ceremony location and gave her the style number. She gave us specific prices for the bridal bouquets. She also said she could make a matching but smaller MOH bouquet and a matching bout, and gave us prices for those.

We didn't get mock-ups. But we had seen a picture of the bouquet online. And she told us that it would be more pink than the online picture. That was as much as we needed.

The final two candidates for florists for me gave me exact numbers for each. I wouldn't be comfortable with ranges. They also told me what specific flowers they will use and in what color. The conversations are in writing which was important. One broke it down to how many bunches and stems each will have. I would suggest you ask them for an actual number (not range), specific flowers, specific colors for each, and other fees need to be listed like delivery. Some florists didn't provide this info and one even said "any variety in the color white" and I would not sign with them. I would also be hesitant signing with anyone that said they wouldn't break down the costs. One florist said that and not so shockingly she was about 8 times more expensive than every other florist.

When we met, my florist showed pictures of previous creations she's made or said she could do.

She did give a range of price for a few of the items. But they were small ranges like $50-$60, but nothing larger than that.

When it came closer to the wedding she gave a final quote with exact numbers.. She did an amazing job! And definitely one of the vendors I do not regret choosing!

Those are some very wide ranges she gave you!

Mine was very specific - this is an excerpt:

BRIDE - 3 Hydrangea, 3 dahlias, 5 mini callas, 5 lisianthus, hypericum, 7 roses, 3-5 scabiosa pods, seeded euc, smokebush, fern curls - $130

MAID OF HONOR – smaller version of bride: 2 hydrangea, 2 dahlias, 3 lisianthus, hypericum, 5 roses, 3 pods, seeded euc, smokebush, fern curls - $80

@Katia - We're getting them from Succulently Urban. Her prices are better than what I was quoted by two local florists for bridesmaids bouquets that mostly had succulents, and she's great about working with you on custom bouquets if you don't like what you see in her shop.
