Did your groom rent a tux/suit or buy?

Rachel , on November 12, 2018 at 11:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
So my fiancé is losing weight up until and probably continuing after the wedding so he wants to rent a suit so that he can go to a place like Men’s Wearhouse a couple weeks before the wedding and rent whatever size he ends up being. My problem with that is he just recently rented one of their suits for a wedding and he got the size that he needed to but I didn’t feel like it looked that good. The pants were too long, they were saggy in the butt and the jacket sleeves were too long. I’m guessing there’s no way to alter a rented suit right? I’m struggling to think of a good solution to this.

Mine will be purchasing his suit, mainly for the reason that he wants to wear green and we're finding it insanely difficult to find a rental in the green he's looking for. I personally like the custom route because then they have a suit that's been made to fit them for any future formal occasions.

I love this idea too. With him losing weight continually I don’t know how long he could wait to order a suit and then also get alterations done!

I am so torn on this too! I feel like men's wearhouse does not fit him well and I kinda like the idea of us both preserving our wedding clothes!

We rented from a local bridal shop because my husband wanted a specific white jack with black trim. My husband lost about 15lbs from the time he was first fitted to the final fitting and they were able to accommodate it. If you're renting a tux, they should be able to make alterations. Typically, you go in a few months before the wedding and they measure him and they order a rental based on his measurements. When it comes in, they ask him to come in to try it on, because they want to make sure it fits. Then, they typically do a final fitting the week before the wedding in case of last-minute alternations.

Try a local bridal salon, many of them carry other brands of tuxes that are fit much better than men's wearhouse.

We will probably be purchasing, as I want a suit that’s a different color than what FH currently owns but has considered getting in the past. Nothing fancy or expensive, but very him.

My FH is buying a suit. The boys are wearing black and he doesn't currently have a black suit so we thought it would be a good idea for him to buy one anyway. It also is nice because with every suit he has ever rented it has been like he's playing dress up so at least he will be able to have it altered to fit.

Yup. There are a few big-name manufactures that they can order from.

My FH bought a suit knowing he wanted something custom and truly tailored for him to wear for several events.

I think I’ve convinced my fiancé to buy a suit and just keep altering it. I’m keeping my dress and then he’ll be keeping his suit so I think it’s perfect! Thanks everyone!

He'll be renting a black tux with a black vest. He's not a suit kinda guy. He really wants a tux. He just said no purple tie, and a vest. He's put on a bit of weight over the years and he wants to hide it. He hasn't asked for anything but that and to be married in a church, so he'll get both
