Diet plan for the week of the wedding? Foods that prevent/limit bloating?

Future Mrs. K, on April 29, 2019 at 1:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18
I overall eat pretty healthy. I eat a lot of fruit, yogurt, cheese, vegetables, and chicken. I do eat carbs but not every day and I try not to overdo it. I also only drink water. I don't kill myself over it and I let myself cheat on the weekends but overall I stick to a pretty regular, healthy diet. My problem is that I can bloat very easily. Is anyone planning on following a specific diet the week of their wedding to feel and look their best? I am confident at where my body is currently at, I am just so worried about bloating and being uncomfortable the day-of. Does anyone know of any specific foods or meal ideas I should have (or should specifically avoid) to prevent or limit any bloating the week of as much as possible?

For me gluten and dairy REALLY make me bloat! But that is because I am sensitive to them so I tend to stay away to begin with. I also have PCOS and I am on a special diet for that which REALLY helps with bloating. I am going to stick to this STRICTLY during this week.

Can you share some of the things you typically eat?

I am in the same boat. I'm happy with myself physically. I know I bloat when drinking wine. Dairy products will make me bloat. I will probably avoid dairy, wine and carbs for at least a few days before the wedding. Following for other words of advice lol.

Agree, I'm definitely planning on avoiding dairy, alcohol, and carbs but not sure what else I should be avoiding or what I can eat lol

Of course! I will give an example from this past week. I made cheeseburger (vegan cheese) lettuce wraps with dairy free chipotle mayo with a sweet potato and a side salad for dinner one night. Normally for breakfast I make either boiled eggs or a breakfast fritatta with lots of veggies. For lunch I will sometimes take leftovers from dinner (zucchini noodle spaghetti) or I will make something else like Curried Chicken Salad with dairy free mayo. If you want more information as to where to find ingredients, I can also provide more of that information as well. Also if you are a yogurt person for breakfast you could swap regular yogurt for coconut or almond yogurt! You can get it at any whole foods or sometimes even at walmart or Kroger! Smiley smile

Thanks so much! I think dairy and carbs are a majority of my problem so this gives me some good ideas. It's not horrible bloat by any means but I definitely want to prevent it as much as possible the week of so this is super helpful and everything actually sounds really good!

Honestly if you try it on a regular basis too, it really helps you feel better too. On the weekends I will allow myself to splurge just a tiny bit but I have managed to lose weight by keeping the things I am sensitive to out of my every day diet! Its been great! Glad I could help! Smiley smile

That's awesome! I'll have to start trying it out when I go grocery shopping next week. Thanks again!

I minimized dairy, starchy carbs (still ate fruit and other carb sources!), and vegetables with a reputation for "making you gassy." Broccoli, I'm looking at you lol. I increased my water intake, ate a lot more lean protein and focused on not snacking as much during the day. Soy was also a big no-no for me for bloat purposes (so I had to eliminate a few of my supplements, protein bars, etc.) but for my regular diet purposes I still have it on occasion. I also added a lot more coconut oil to my diet and that seemed to do really great things for my digestion. Don't know if it was coincidence or what, but it worked for me!

I bloat easily too!! And if I get my period anywhere around the wedding...it's over, I'll basically look pregnant on my wedding day. Hoping SO HARD this doesn't happen.

Carbs and alcohol will make you bloat. I've found something that helps me is a natural yogurt like fage or greek gods. A good probiotic will also help keep the bloat away and keep you regular.
Everyone's body is different, though, so just keep an eye on it, maybe even a food journal of you want to be extra careful.

Try to avoid too much salt, oil, and dairy!

I'm planning on basically limiting myself to chicken, fish, rice, vegetables, and a little fruit the week or so before. I'm also only eating home cooking for the couple weeks before the wedding (no restaurants!) so I can know exactly what ingredients are going in. Possibly a little over the top, but I have a history of stomach problems so I am going to do everything I can to avoid that at the wedding!

Your wedding is one day after mine. When I first read this post, my thought was "if I get my period, I'm eating and drinking everything because what will it matter." Fingers crossed for us both lol!

This is the best advice I've read! Also though stay away from all kinds of cabbage this includes broccoli any vegetable with high fiber can also cause you issues on your wedding day.

I have severe bloating and IBS and it's always white breads and green vegetables that cause me the most problems.

Yup! The high fiber veggies, although they are super good for you, usually cause bloating in the form of gas as they digest. And carbs.. hell they are the devil, but dammit they taste so good. Hahaha

You have to find out what is making you bloat! I notice this too, but not able to figure what I eat that is the source. Maybe keep a food diary and notes to try to figure it out. Or you can go to the doctor to see if it is an allergy.

Diary is a common cause of bloat.

also check your veggies. I love broccoli and Brüssel sprouts but they bloat me. Try avoiding these veggies and replacing with something less dense like salads, celery, carrots
