Different Role for Niece

Kathleen, on January 13, 2022 at 7:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi all!

Today I asked my FH when and how he wanted to ask our nephews and niece to be our ring bearers and flower girl. He seemed a bit disappointed that we weren't going with a flower man. We had joked around months ago of having our one friend be the flower man, but that's all i thought it was... a joke. So now I am trying to figure out if there is a way to make it all work. I know his sister will be upset if we do not ask his niece to be involved in the wedding.

I'm just reaching out to see if anyone would have any ideas on how to include our niece in the bridal party, but still have a flower man? We will be having 3 ring bearers as well... maybe she can walk with them?

How old is she? If she's very little maybe your "flower man" could carry her or pull her in a wagon.

Could you have the little one go first, and then the adult after her? I've also seen a 'money man' where they throw notes rather than petals, so you could have her do the petals, then him come after with the dolla dolla bills! I've also seen it done with cans or bottles of beer out an oversized bum bag, so there are options other than petals!

She will be 9 by the time of the wedding. She would probably love the wagon. Love the idea

Love this as well! Best of both worlds and pleases everyone, (hopefully)!

I hate drama and know not having her involved in the wedding will create it.

I've never seen a wagon used for a big kid, but I'm sure there are ways to do it! Or she could help carry your train, she'd be old enough for that kind of responsibility.

She is very little for her age. About 50 lbs and maybe 42" (3-1/2 ft).

A nine year old would be old enough to be a junior bridesmaid

My niece (15) will be tending to my train when I walk the aisle. My youngest daughter is 9 & I know that she’d be capable of doing it, but she’ll be a bridesmaid.

I think the flower man trend started for couples who were not having kids in the wedding. But hey, you do you. Could the niece walk as a junior bridesmaid? She's doesn't need to have a particular function except to stand with the bridal party.

A junior bridesmaid role would be great for your niece! She could go before all of the older bridesmaids, or right in front of you and can hold your bouquet during the ceremony, read a short and sweet poem during the ceremony, or tend to your train and veil as others suggested. Another idea would be having her be an escort and get family not in the processional to their seats and hand out programs if you're doing something along those lines.
