Different theme for the cocktail hour

Michelle, on June 10, 2021 at 10:14 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

Has anyone ever had a different theme/vibe for their cocktail hour? I'd like a band to play Latin percussion instruments (conga drums, etc) during the cocktail hour, and am thinking of creating a Caribbean/ Cuba pre-revolution rhumba vibe. My FH and I loved our trip to Cuba pre-COVID. He also likes the Presidential palace scenes in Godfather 2. I'm thinking of adding tropical trees and floral decor in the separate space. I could add mojitos with real sugar cane, but I am unsure how guests will fare with liquor (& sugar!) they're not used to. Is changing themes too eclectic? Guests will move to a separate ballroom reception for dinner with a change in band music. Our guests do not really salsa if we keep the music Latin. The centerpieces are romantic ombre tropical. Thank you.

I love the idea!! It’s not too eclectic. It’s actually fun and memorable. I think your guests would enjoy cocktail hour having a different vibe. Everyone has already experienced cookie cutter weddings. So give them something different!

I think it sounds really fun! As a guest, I would enjoy this immensely, and I also love how you're bringing in your love for Cuba and your trip and adding it to your wedding. I really like personalized touches like that!

I'm half Filipino, so we're wanting a Filipino business to cater our cocktail hour, and have Filipino staples served! Lumpia (type of fried spring roll) Pancit (noodles), etc.

We are doing two different vibes also! I think as long as they are in separate rooms, and each room has its own distinct feel, it will work perfectly! Plus, I think it’s more exciting for guests.
Each part of our evening will have its own vibe, but we are keeping the color gold in each room, just to tie it all together. We having a very light, airy, neutral ceremony with TONS of white flowers and gold candle holders. Then our cocktail hour will be a stark contrast- the room is dark red, low lighting, ornate gold accents, all dark red flowers. Then the reception is in a grand ballroom with beautiful gold details on the ceiling, gold sequin table cloths, and black accents.

Our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception are really ALL different themes. They are each in different rooms of the venue that have their own "theme" (an astronomy/planetary science exhibit for the ceremony, which will be moon and star themed; a chemistry science exhibit for the cocktail hour, which we're going to go full chemistry-themed with; and a dinosaur/archaeology exhibit which we are going fossil and fern themed with.)

I think your guests will think it's a blast, plus it makes the cocktail hour very distinct from the reception.

I love bordello red, sorry if my name choice offends. My reception has red carpet and I think it's sexy. I think the gold throughout ties the rooms well!

I'm Filipino, too. Smiley smile Our venue doesn't allow outside food, but am now seriously thinking of this for Afterhours in our hotel rooms.

Pamilya! (I don't know much, but mom did tell me that family in Tagalog!) Smiley shame

Ugh yes, I say do it! It's such a fun way to show your culture, but it's also a great idea for a late night snack.

No, I think bordello red is the perfect name for it! Definitely a very dark, sexy vibe. I loved the room, but it wasn’t the vibe I was going for for our reception. But I really wanted to use it! Cocktail hour seemed like the perfect compromise
