Dining room & Dance Floor in two separate rooms

Karolyn, on August 27, 2024 at 3:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 1

Hi! Okay so I'm trying to figure out the 'flow'. Our wedding coordinator did not really ease my mind/thoughts.

Situation: We have it scheduled where we would eat dinner from 7-8pm. The band fires up at 8pm and goes on until 11pm in the room next door.

a. When would we do the introduction? Into the dining room? Seems odd to me. Do we do the introduction into the dance room, even though we've already been mingling already with our guests?

b. An hour now seems rushed for dinner (buffet style) and trying to cram in speeches.

I was thinking maybe we have everyone enter into the ballroom first. People grab drinks and passed hors d'oeuvres. We get introduced in, do our first dance and then announce dinner is open in the other room. Is that too much shuffling around, since they have to move back into the dance hall after dinner?

Looking for suggestions from people who have experienced this either as a guest or the bride. Thanks so much!

I did not have a venue with separate rooms but as you are the Host, you can certainly plan your own schedule. I suggest moving speeches only to the Rehearsal dinner. Then for your reception, adjourn directly to dinner. It moves very quickly and the energy is still high after cocktail hour. I do not enjoy speeches as it's rude to eat when someone's speaking.

Then using chimes or the Band, encourage everyone to the dance floor room. I would then have your first dance, and your Band's sets for the evening. Perhaps you could offer a light dessert table and lounge in the dance room for guests to take breaks.
