Dinner at 8? Is that too late

MJ, on October 4, 2016 at 4:49 PM

So I am having my ceremony at 630pm followed by cocktail hour and then dinner. Dinner would begin at 8. Is that late? Appetizers would be passed around cocktail hour. My wedding is scheduled to end at 12 or 1230 - haven't decided yet. Thoughts?

I think it's fine since you are offering appetizers during cocktail hour.

That's my timeline! We are having passed apps and slightly more substantial food stations (mac and cheese bar and street tacos) during cocktail hour.

I think that's pretty normal. The way I see it, when FH and I go out to eat at a nice fancy restaurant, we normally make reservations for 7:30 and don't end up eating until after 8

Sounds like good timing! My ceremony is at 4pm, cocktail hour at 5pm, and reception at 6:45pm.

That's the same timeline we're using. We'll have 5 passes apps and two large app stations during cocktail hour. We wanted a later start with the wedding being on a Friday.

It seems fine. People can have a late lunch if they are worried, and they will have nibbles before dinner at the cocktail hour.

Mine will probably be around then, because it's a beach wedding and we wanted it right at sunset

Not if your having cocktail hour! We have to have our ceremony at 7, as long as you feed your guests right after your fine!

As long as you're feeding people during cocktail hour, you should be fine. I had a Friday wedding and our schedule was invitation time 6:00p, ceremony 6:30p, cocktail hour 6:30-7:30p, reception/dinner served 8:00p. Worked out great!

I usually eat around 6:30 so I would be hungry! If you are offering appetizers that should fine. We have to be out of our venue by 10pm so we are doing things a little earlier.

    Our rough draft schedule:

    4:30 pre-ceremony drink

    5:00 ceremony

    5:15 cocktail hour

    6:00 start seating for dinner

Sounds super late to me, but you're also talking to the girl that goes to bed between 7 and 8 because she wakes up at 4:30-5am every morning. Haha

Nope we had a ton of food at cocktail hour as well.

I think people expect to eat later at a night wedding especially on a friday night.
