Dinner party wedding activities

Samantha, on October 29, 2021 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

We are getting married on the beach with just immediate family, so total 16 people including us. After the beach ceremony, we will head back to our place for dinner. We will have tables set up and food catered.. but then what? After people eat, I am stuck what to do. My FH and I are drinkers as are 1/3 of the guests. Another 1/3 drink a little, and the last 1/3 are strict non-drinkers. We were thinking setting out cornhole (weather pending), cards, bonfire. Music playing but not dancy type music as I hate to dance. What else can we do? Is it going to be wierd and lame? My mom and dad are divorced so they don't like to talk to each other, several of the group haven't even met. Kinda wanna scrap the whole thing and elope! Lol

We didn't really do dancing for our reception, as it wasn't the "feel" we wanted. People will talk and mingle amongst themselves. If you have lawn games set up, people will probably play - and if you have a bonfire I would get the stuff for s'mores - they're always fun Smiley smile

It's not going to be weird or lame. Remember that your wedding is about *you and your fh* - just make sure people are fed (and have plenty to drink - alcoholic or not). You're going to have a beautiful wedding.

I agree with Becky. Chatting & mingling is the main entertainment,, with or without dancing, since people who love to hit the dancefloor, don't dance all night long...
The fact your parents are divorced is not a big deal if they both have family members they can chat with.
As long as there is enough food and space for everyone, the reception will be fine, your guests will have a good time.

Many weddings skip dancing for various reasons no guests are more than happy with the opportunity to mingle. Especially during the pandemic. They don’t need or want other entertainment beyond background music. Don’t worry.

I went to a small backyard reception that had all the things you said you plan on doing, yard games, bonfire, and it was so much fun. A lot of people changed from formal clothes to more casual for this part and everyone stayed pretty late and enjoyed themselves. No one missed the dancing.

Pretend that you're just having a very nice dinner party. People eat, then sit and mingle. Maybe add a cake cutting in there if you want a bit of tradition. Play the "shoe" game? Otherwise if you have food, drinks and some place for everyone to sit you're golden.
