Disappointing Photos...

Beth, on December 7, 2015 at 9:32 AM Posted in Married Life 1 55

Were any other brides disappointed by their photos? Mine just don't seem to be anything special over the hundreds of cell phone camera snap shots friends took that day. I contacted the photog but she said she's sent everything she has. I guess there's nothing that can be done about it now, it was just a lot of money for meh.

That is too bad you aren't happy with the photos. Did your photographer give you the raw files? Maybe you could take them to someone else to edit them?

Sorry you don't like your pro photos, sometimes that happens though. Luckily you do have access to the pictures your friends took. Try printing some of those out, you can make a collage of multiple ones or do a photo wall.

Eta: if you don't like the composition there isn't much that editing will do, and if they are a pro photographer it's unlikely that they will hand over raw files to you.

Like others have asked, what do you not like about them? And does the quality seem out of character for that photographer compared to the rest of their work?

Do you want to share a couple so we can see what you mean?

I know another bride on here was disappointed in some but by cropping them differently it made a world of difference. Not ideal when you have invested so much into them, but perhaps they are salvageable?

Did she just send you all of them and tell you to pick them? or did she just send the entire whole kitten kaboodle and say here you go?

you should have gotten an edited quantity back.

You cannot take a photographer's work to someone else for editing. That violates copyright. I wish people would stop suggesting this option.

I wasn't suggesting someone else edit them, I was just suggesting a way to easily edit them herself? I get copyright issues, but sometimes cropping photos yourself can change the entire look of one from something you don't like to what you really wanted originally. It obviously depends on the resolution of the picture because cropping reduces the file size but it could help at least a little?

Do you have some examples of pictures you aren't crazy about?

Wolf, the very first comment suggested it and I meant that one. But cropping is still editing and the photographer could have grounds to sue for that too (though likely wouldn't? Not sure. Maybe Jay will chime in.)

Do the photos you received seem like the rest of the work your photographer has done?

@Beth ~ Also curious about what specifically you didn't like ...? Did they seem more like snapshots than beautiful photographs? Was there not enough variety? Were they edited in a weird way (filters, etc)?

Photographers do not give away their copyright. If they did it would cost an outrageous amount. If they did you could edit them but printing rights (which is what they give you) is not the same as copyright.

The main things were just that 1) My friends that got married had SO MANY photos - like dozens of them with families and maid of honor or getting ready, I had like 2-3 each, and people are not looking at the camera or something, and 2) I wish I had one or two really beautiful more artistic type-shots....these all just feel so point and click. The only really cool ones are of the first dance and the ones inside the lobby are nice...

Does anyone else feel like these are photos similar to ones that any guest could take?

Those are the photos. My email back to her was...

Do you have any photos from getting ready where I actually look happy?

Do you have any at the fort with Groom not squinting? He seems to be squinting in most of them.

Around photo 102 and the next few theres a green spot on the ground in front of me - not sure what that is...

Do you have any more photos where Dog is looking at the camera?

Do you have any of me smiling down the aisle? Again, I don't seem thrilled to be there...

The family photos after the ceremony - any where everyone is actually looking at the camera and smiling? Do you have more in general - there are only two or three and not one where everyone looks decent.

The parents intro - any with my dads eyes open? More of the parents in general? Did you get any of the parents at the ceremony? My friend said they were adorable, I wish I had a photo of them at the ceremony.

Any of just Groom and I are the sweetheart table? I don't really remember what it looked like and I'd love to see a "moment" or two of just us at the sweetheart.

Any additional of friends and family in general? There are zero of my aunts and cousins...would love to see some of the families.

Beth I am making some assumptions so please correct me if I am wrong. I don't think the photos are horrible. I am assuming your photography budget wasn't huge and that you only had one photographer. Some of the posing didn't seem great and I would say that would have come from a photographer without much experience. Also, I assume photographing animals is hit or miss. You can't make a dog look at you. Just like facial expressions a photog can't make you look happy. You do have a smile in some getting ready pictures so maybe your resting face is a face that puts on a frown? With one photographer you miss a lot of shots because they can only be in one spot. So the photographer obviously was focused on you and DH during ceremony and not the audience which would include parents.

All in all I really don't think they are horrible. When I got married the first time I did a budget photog and hated my pictures. In fact I didn't have a single picture with just my mom and I. So when I got engaged this time I knew I would pick a great photog no matter the price.

Are those pictures that you asked about pictures that you specifically asked for? Was it one photographer or two? If there was only one, I could see why some of those moments weren't captured.

ETA: I do think your pictures are really pretty!

They aren't the best or worst wedding photos I've seen. What did her other weddings look like?
