Disappointing Weight Loss

Michelle, on May 12, 2018 at 6:33 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 23
My FH and I are both on a diet but despite me needing to lose twice the amount of weight, he has lost double what I have. His BMI when we started was 29, mine is 40. Really discouraging. I just have to accept I will look like an onion in my wedding dress: short and round.

Please know that no matter what you will look GORGEOUS on your wedding day. You are marrying the person you love and your beautiful smile will make you stand out and be perfect. I know as women we are always hypercritical of ourselves and our bodies, but I just want to build you up and tell you how much I know you will look perfect on your day.

Weight loss can take time and it varies from person to person! Just keep eating healthy and exercising. Don't think of it as loosing weight for the wedding, do it for yourself in the long run. And I'm sure you will look beautiful in your gown and your FH will think the same.

The only thing that matter is that your FH loves you for who you are honey. He loves you wether or not you're losing the weight.

Men have an easier time losing weight than women do. Don’t let it get you down, I’m sure you’ll be beautiful and non-onionlike in your dress!

It's better to slowly lose weight than lose a lot at once. IMO it seems men have a. Easier time losing weight in general. Dont let it discourage you!

I can completely understand. I went on a low carb diet and lost about 30 lbs in 5 months, yet my FH barely follows the diet and loses weight like crazy! It’s discouraging, but just remember in the end your FH will love you no matter what you look like! Try to remember the reason your getting married and not focus on the weight (I know easier said then done.). Good luck and congrats!

I used to go to Weight Watchers regularly and the few guys that would go always lost weight so much faster - it seemed so unfair. Just stick with whatever you are doing to lose weight and you'll eventually find success too! Good Luck - I can sympathize as I swear I've counted calories almost half my life now!

I am on low-carb/keto too. I'm miserable and it's hard getting through a bad week and I have less than a pound of weight loss to show for it.

He got upset when I said I don't want to diet anymore. It's hard suffering all week and lose less than a pound and he lost over 5lbs.

How low are your carbs? I was tracking my food (before going low carb) and noticed I was eating roughly 250 grams of carbs a day, then dropped to 100 grams of carbs a day and the weight started coming off. If you are too low that can cause a negative effect with weight as well. To help with the bad weeks I will still eat ice cream or sweets, I just adjust the rest of my day to fit within my carb limit. Also, have you tried talking with a doctor? There are medication options (like phetermine) which will reduce the appetite and make it easier to lose weight...or at least get through the bad weeks.

We are doing 25 grams of net carbs a day. It' working great for him. Some people on another thread mentioned that they had slow loss the first three weeks and then it picked up. Hopefully it's just that. But if not, I guess I will have to see a doctor for some help.

I am in the same situation. I struggle with my weight too. My fiance can lose weight just by thinking about it. I wanted to lose weight for my e-pics, dress shopping, then for when it came in, for the fitting, and for the wedding. So far, nothing. I have come to terms with it in trying to realize I just need to be healthy. Yes, the extra weight matters but overall I am happy and my FH loves me no matter what. If I don't lose the weight by my wedding, will our day be any less special? No.

Focus on being happy with the skin you are in. Being healthy. That is what really matters.

You are and will be beautiful!

Try keto! I waited a long time before starting and i wish i had sooner. I have lost 21 lbs in 5 weeks. And we eat GOOD food. Its basically just low carb and essentially no sugar. High fats (good fats) i am not calling it a diet becauae im not waiting for an end date. I love eating this way. I have lived on candy and love pizza but eating this way has literally changed how i look at food. Ive also hardly worked out, just a hike here and there. Just know the first couple weeks can go slow but then the lbs seriously melt off!

Men can lose body mass quicker than women can. It’s frustrating but just remember it will be a beautiful fun day. Just keep at it 😊

Unfortunately every body is different, just keep at it and I have found seeing a doctor helps keep me on track and they can provide assistance or testing if they think something else might be the cause (like hypothyroidism). Don’t give up though!

In general, men do lose weight a lot faster than women. Which is super frustrating! I’d try not to compare at all. Easier said than done I know!
