Discussion - what did you do with unwanted gifts?

mrswinteriscoming, on January 25, 2021 at 8:49 PM Posted in Registry 0 8

No matter what, whether you tell guests no gifts, direct guests to a gift registry, or have a wishing well, at each wedding there is bound to be a gift given to the couple which was not asked for - I'm talking the toaster oven you didn't need, the set of champagne glasses you don't have room for, the crockery that doesn't go with anything you own etc.

What did you do with your unwanted gifts? Did you keep them? Exchange them? Re-gift them? Donate them?

So we got dishcloths, matching oven mittens, and a matching serving tray. We kept it and actually use them either though we didn't ask for them. If it is something you really don't want or don't have room for then you could exchange the item if you know where it came from or try to sell it. I am currently pregnant and preparing myself for unwanted gifts for our daughter.

I donated any unwanted gifts to goodwill and loved ones.

There were things that I got like at my bridal shower that I did not ask for and I did not really like so I just ended up donating them. I am so thankful for the gift that I got but at the same time it’s kind of difficult when you get some thing that you know you won’t use

We got some nice crystal glasses that are still in their box. They live in the cabinet with stuff that isn’t used often. We also got a pressure cooker that we didn’t ask for and wound up loving it!

We accepted them graciously, wrote nice thank you notes, and later sold them on Facebook marketplace after the wedding because there were no gift receipts, or donated. Although for one gift we contacted the company and they let us exchange for store credit even though we didn't have a gift receipt. I know it may seem rude, but we live in a teeny tiny apartment without the room to store any unnecessary things.

We only had 2 gifts that we did not want/need. One was a duplicate of something we already received, and one was just something we did not need at all. We just exchanged them for something we wanted.

I too live in a small apartment so anything we end up getting but won’t use will be exchanged / sold / donated (after being graciously accepted and given thanks for).
