Dress Doubts

Kathryn, on September 5, 2018 at 6:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

So i did that thing of buying a dress on a whim because it was a bargain and a dress i couldnt have afforded full price, but im having a bit of a wobble with it. No biggie as i have plenty of time, but i want to get some opinions so i know if i should be finding some more cash in our budget for a new one!

Our wedding is very relaxed, were having a BBQ for the main meal and a DJ, super chilled in a barn. Any advice is hugely appreciated, as im incapable of making a decision and feeling good with it! I've put a photo of the venue so you can get the vibe.

I have thought of maybe just adding a belt, and even sewing on some more beading or sparkle to it? Any ideas welcome, as i said im happy to just start again!

I think your dress is perfect for your venue. It's simple and romantic and beautiful. You could jazz it up with a belt but I don't think you need to. It also looks fantastic on you!

That said, it's how you feel in it. If you don't feel your absolute best in it, then I'd say start budgeting for a new one and sell this one.

Thank you, i think part of it may be that i feel a bit unhappy with my body generally, so maybe when that changes ill put it on and feel better.

How funny (as in strange not humerous), I saw the pictures, before your discussion and thought I wish I could look that great in a figure hugging dress. I agree. You look fantastic in it.

I had the same problem. I hated my dress the closer I got to the wedding. After reading all the bridal magazines I felt that there were prettier dresses out there and I got mine the week after I was engaged.

I ended up sticking with with her dress and it was totally fine. Once hair and makeup were done I totally felt like a bride and everyone was saying they loved the dress.

I think your dress is gorgeous and you should invest in both a professional bridal hair and makeup artist instead of buying a whole new dress! And a good bra- the sticky backless/strapless one! Smiley smile

Thank you! Yeah i guess when i am all put together i will feel a lot more "bridal". a lot of people have said just trying it on with a veil makes a difference so i might order a cheap one just to see.
    Thanks for the tips!!

I agree with others, in both style and fit, it is perfect for both you and the venue! Gorgeous dress with a nice balance of formal and sexy, but definitely not over-the-top on either, so it works well with your venue/theme. When it's time to do your minor alterations, they may be able to take the bustline in a little bit and/or suggest a different bra or cups, so it fits even better on the top, but other than a bustle it's perfect! (Personally, I don't think it needs a sparkly belt; I think it is very classy & sophisticated the way it is.) Good luck!

That dress looks amazing on you!!! Great find especially if it was on sale!! You’ll need to get stick bra cups or have cups sewn into the dress, and a bustle added. I don’t think that that should be too expensive considering it looks like everything else fits!! If anything, add a sparkley belt, but honestly it doesn’t even need that. I think softer curls would look great too 😊

Hi Kathryn! I think your dress is so pretty and perfectly matches your venue space! As long as you're comfortable in your dress and love the way you look, that's all that should matter! If you wanted to add to your dress a nice sparkly belt would pair really well! Also, you could try on your dress after you do your hair and makeup trials to visualize the completed look. Do you have an idea of how you'll be doing your hair and makeup for the big day?

I think the dress is perfect for the venue! You look stunning already without wedding day hair and makeup. The day of it will be amazing. What decor for the venue are you planning? And what type of bouquet will you have?

Adding a pretty, ribbon, belt would be nice. Is there a close family member who's passed away and might have a dress that you can take/make the belt from?
Having your hair in a loose updo with flowers would also look stunning.
I think the dress is perfect for the venue. Both are simple and elegant, but sparkly too!
I agree that the taking it in and bustline/bra would probably make you feel happier with it.
Great choice of dress and venue btw!

    Thanks everyone!!

I have no idea how ill do my hair and make up really, but i know i will be having a pro do it as im awful at these things!

I think ill try and get cups put into it, ill be more comfortable and i hadnt really thought how much altering the bust would make a difference so thank you! I do think the lace under the bust is a bit see through so i might get a backing put on that too.

for the venue were just planning on keeping it simple and letting it speak for itself. The tables will have small jars with flowers in, probably a mix of babys breath, tulips and maybe hydrangeas. Some jars will be glass, some will be partly painted metallic rose gold.
I haven't got a clue about my own flowers yet! I like the hand tied free flowing look though as opposed to the really round style.

I actually really love the dress! It's simple but still timeless & classy. You could add beading, or a decorative veil/accessories?

Aw thank you! I was thinking of either a patterned/coloured veil, or i am tempted by a cape instead! I feel like if i have really pretty hair its a shame to cover it up.
I think ill start looking more into these fun things and then ill get an idea of the overall look.
