Disney World week before christmas?

Stephanie, on December 3, 2017 at 8:46 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

Ok, so I was initially going to go to DisneyWorld for my honeymooon December 2nd-December 8th, BUT I decided to go back to college and it interfered with exams/college courses. Do you think going the week before christmas this year will be overwhelmingly bad with crowds? I expect it to be crowded, but many blogs has mentioned Christmas week is INSANELY busy and the week before is doable. I don't want to lose my deposit with my travel agent, and I want to enjoy myself but I also am not jeopardizing my college with trying to deal with rescheduling finals. Help appreciated.

I understand it is always crowded, but I don't want to go christmas week, and am trying to avoid XMAS day/week because EVERYONE and their mother is off of school. I am for sure aware it will be crowded, but I don't have a lot of options unfortunately and I do want to go for the holidays, it is also my first time at Disney though, and I don't want to be soured forever either though.

I'm in Florida and our kids get out around the 15th... and don't go back till Jan 8th.

My best friend just went this weekend, and that's as late as she'll go. Unfortunately there's never really an off peak time with Disney. I understand not wanting to be soured by the experience, I truly do. If you do go, sign up for the Disney app and do fast passes. That will help cut some wait times. Also be prepared for long wait times.

Well if that's the only week you can go, then it seems like it doesn't really matter what the crowds will be like. You can google Disney world crowd calendar and it will be more specific with the expected crowds.

Wow that's an insanely long Christmas Break @hisbeauty! I wish when I was in school, I had off school that much time, sheesh! I know it's not ideal and the FH doesn't really care because the only other time he went was in June and he was 8! Thanks guys it wasn't really what I wanted to hear but it helps.

Very, very busy. MK regularly closes because of capacity during the week.

If you are doing your honeymoon there even if it's a little bit late mention it to them it's going to be crowded however they give you a sticker that says happily ever after and this can help you with little gifts that they get you and sometimes they will put you ahead of the line it will help

I used to work there for multiple seasons and christmas season is THE BUSIEST time for disney. Second is spring break. Literally MK is so packed people can't even move and lines for rides become 3+ hours. That being said, the week before may be ok, but once it gets close (christmas to new years), I have seen them send people to other parks bc MK reached its max capacity at 8 in the morning. So the week before may be a hit or miss. Usually the beginning of December isn't too bad.

If you really want to avoid crowds, go in early January after New Years. I've gone then in the past it's not as bad and a lot of the Christmas decorations are still up. But watch out for marathon weekends because they bring crowds. There are crowd calendars if you google it that some blogs have. They'll give you an idea of when it'll be slightly less busy.

Wouldn't recommend going anytime near Christmas (went last year and it was madness) I felt bad for anyone that that was their first experience with Disney because it was so packed it really wasn't enjoyable

Many of the rides had a. 5-6 hour wait. I wish I was joking.

Go in early January if you want to beat the crowds. My favorite day to go is New Year's Eve though. The crowds don't bother me and I loved the parade.

I'll second what PPs have said about going the week after Christmas - it is less busy then.

I will also say, that as a college professor, I would NOT allow you to move my exam for a vacation (not even a honeymoon) because you are supposed to schedule your vacations at other times (and as a side note, for me that would mean the highest grade you could get was a "C" and that's with 100% on every assignment and 100% attendance). You may discover that you have no problem, but it's unlikely - just something to take into consideration.

I worked at Walt Disney World during the holiday season and I can tell you that the week before Christmas was overwhelming for a lot of people. I'm used to standard crowds having worked there, I can tell you that lines average 30-45 minutes for the bigger attractions... 1.5-2 hours for the REALLY popular things... but the week before Christmas will be closer to 60-70 minute average wait times and the REALLY popular things will be more around 2-3.5 hours. The early weeks of January is LOVELY though. Schools usually go back the week of New Years while colleges don't go back until a few weeks later. Brazilian Tour Groups start coming around that time but right around January 4th is the best time. You can usually get better rates too and some of the parks will still have Christmas decor up. If you want a little more elbow room, fewer wait times, more tables at quick service restaurants, and less people in your pictures, wait. If you don't mind some extra people and will have a great time regardless, just pack a little extra patience with you, understand you probably won't be able to do EVERYTHING you want to do/see, and have a great time! My family came for Christmas Day just to see me since I didn't get the holidays off and that was the first time for a lot of them. They still had a wonderful vacation! It's what you make of it!

Thank you Becky, that’s exactly why I didn’t feel comfortable having my honeymoon scheduled during class time, also though the honeymoon was paid for before scheduling class. And believe me I get that. I’m a grown adult whose done college before. That’s why I wanted to move it.

Just wanted to mention it, since you said something about rescheduling.

We did Walt Disney World for our honeymoon in July, and dealt with Disney directly - much easier than dealing with a travel agent. (Don't know how much your deposit is, but your travel agent is really not doing anything you can't do yourself - and if you look yourself, you can pick everything you want (within budget) and add "honeymoon" to all of your reservations/tickets/stay -https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/disney-vacation-planning/)

I live here and am a pass holder. My friend is coming into town this week to go and it's even a little late for my liking. The week of Christmas is just awful. Unless it is truly the only time you will ever have to go to Disney in your life, I recommend not doing it and finding another time.
