disposable camera idea ***what do u think

Andrea, on August 8, 2011 at 8:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

I was watching Four Weddings the other day and one bride had an idea she left disposable cameras on the tables but she had que cards on the tables for the guests for ideas of what to take pictures of...example someone dancing funny, someone smiling, etc and it was a cute way to get pictures that the photographer may not get....and with out spending a whole lot of money that i don't have one a photo booth and getting a student like phototgrapher for the wedding is almost as much as a professional one...so tell me what you think...and what kind of pictures you could tell the guests to take pics of

You could try this. I like the idea myself as long as you don't skimp on your pro photography. But I have a feeling some people here will tell you disposables are a bad idea because of quality issues. I just think it's a fun game for guests if nothing else Smiley smile

In theory it's a cute idea however those disposable cameras take awful photos and cost an arm & a leg to develope before you find out that all you got was a bunch of black photos. I wouldn't bother

Instead of having them developed you could just have them put all the photos on disk, that way you can pick & choose which ones you want developed.

Cute idea to do a photo scavenger hunt, but just a reminder about the expense of having the camera's developed. Smiley smile Might be worth the photobooth especially if you consider people taking crappy/inappropriate pictures. Smiley smile

    Photo scavenger hunt- good idea!

    Disposable cameras- bad idea!

There have been a million threads, and you can use the search bar to find them. But I'll give you the highlights:

Grandma taking a dump! (yes, this was a real pic a bride got on one of her disposable camera)

Dispsoable cameras sit on shelves for years, and the chemicals go bad... bad pictures!

Expensive- both to purchase, and to develop.

Everyone, their mother, and their dog has a digital camera. A snapfish/photobucket/flickr/fotki/other site album that guests can upload their pics to is a much better idea! Get business cards printed with the website site and password on them.

I did the I spy thing with disposable cameras and it was a hit, everyone had a great time trying to get all the pics and the pics turned out great.

I used to love them, but these days, everyone has a digital camera in their cell phones. Those pics will come out better than 99% of those from the disposable camera, mostly b/c they are not good in low light, like an indoor reception and/or evening.

Luckly I'm having an adult wedding and reception but I do have an open bar so I guess its bound to happen with some unwanted pictures but I'll have to just try it...

I went to a wedding with the disposable cameras, meanwhile the part with the cameras was dry (no alcohol), i know my table got lousy photos... we didn't know how to fill up the entire camera so we ended up taking really useless photos... i like the idea of doing the scavenger hunt with the digital cameras, and posting them on a share website, that's what i did! and ppl that forgot their photos or want photos can go on the website and download better quality photos than off of facebook and assuming not all of your guests are friends, everyone will see them! and it doesn't cost you a dime!

We are now in the digital world. EVERYBODY was taking pictures with their camera phones at my wedding and posting them on Facebook and sending them to us via email. We actually had some better shots from the candid shots from other people than our photographer. So don't waste money on the disposable cameras. That was a thing people did "pre-digital camera phone" days. I like the "I Spy" poster Idea...I wish I knew about that for my wedding. That way you are giving your guests a heads up that you'd like them to share their shots with you by email or facebook. People will do it anyway. Me and my hubby were looking at pictures people got of us while we were on our honeymoon because sooooooo many people posted there stuff on Facebook and sent them to us by email.

I like the idea, but i hate disposables. As everyone had said, everyone has a cell phone with a camera, and they love to share them. It's much more cost effective.

What is the easiest way to set up an account so the guests can post their pics and see everyone else's? I have a snapfish account now and the only way ppl can see my album is if I email them a link. Plus, I want to set up an account just for the wedding pictures - does anyone have a favorite site? I know flicker is really popular, and I have never tried photobucket. I (obviously) want to make it really easy for everyone.

I gotta agree with Hayley on this one, they will be a huge waste in my opinion. Then you have to think about paying to have the film developed after the wedding. That's alot of film and pictures to have pay for. My friend who got married last year did this, and Honestly hardly anyone actually used them, like maybe 10 at the most out of 100 guests.

I did the disposable cameras and it was a complete waste, tons of pictures of nothing. I would not recommend it.

I would start a shared website (Shutterfly has it) and you can put the web address on each table and ask for people to post their pictures (and videos) there. Its fun, and all the other guests can see everyone elses pics.

After having read a Brian post in the past, I looked at renting digital cameras and there are actually companies out there where you can rent them and they will give you the images that are taken. We are going to try this. I don't get married for another 26 days but after I will let you know how it goes. :-)
