disposable cameras--do or not?

Sandy, on June 6, 2010 at 8:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

Like the idea of 1 camera on each table but should I include ideas for pictures so don't get really stupid ones. i REALLY liked the idea of 1 camera per table but I'm not sure. I think one bride suggested using the camera and having a scavenger hunt during the reception. that sounds like a great idea for guests. let me know about the scavenger hunt idea if anyone can give more ideas

We are doing disposable cameras. I was thinking about putting a label on them with ideas for pictures. Another bride also suggested rather than developing the pictures, have them put onto a disc, so you can preview them before paying to have them developed.

We had disposable cameras at our wedding and our guests got some wonderful and personal photos. They were able to capture special moments because they knew us and each other in a way the photographer did not. However, we really like the idea of putting the photos on a disc before choosing the ones you actually want to develop.

This is a really good point... I had thought of doing this, but I didn't know if places still developed film cameras. And can they put it on a disc before they're developed? I didn't think they could do that with film... that would be awesome though!

I went to a wedding last night with disposable cameras and I didn't even think about taking pictures until the reception was almost over. We took pictures of everyone who was at our table and a few of the bride and groom dancing, but other than that there were 20/24 pictures left on the camera! I wanted to do them, but now I realized they might be a waste of money considering I didn't see anyone else use theirs either. In this day & age EVERYONE has digital cameras of their own, so they dont even think to use those!

I agree with KK. They're a cute idea in theory, but I don't think people really use them. Instead, I'm sure you could ask guests to email you the digital pics from their own cameras. Almost everyone will bring one.

We had disposables at my daughters wedding. Out of the 10 cameras that actually got used each had only a few pics on them, none of the pics turned out well. We got much better pics from the guests who had digital cameras.

Originally, I was going to do them. But in order to cut costs, it was one of the first things to go. We're going to instead leave a little note at each person's spot with information to our www.shutterfly.com picture sharing account for the wedding so that they can share their photos with us that way. Most people have digital cameras now so they'll take pics and then upload them onto their computer and then hopefully upload them onto our shutterfly sharing account.

We briefly thought about doing disposable cameras. When we made our first budget the cost for them was put in there, but it didn't take long to decide we would rather spend that money on something else. I like heavnsnt's idea w/the shutterfly account.

I haven't worked on our website at all--it's all still very generic, but here is our page: http://thekerrfullerwedding.shutterfly.com/

Some of the ladies even created a "dummy" email address and provided their guests with the email address and password to the email address so that guests don't have to create their own shutterfly account (some people aren't comfortable doing that!). I think it's a fantastic idea Smiley smile

We had a disposable camera on every table, but apparently many people didnt realize that a flash was necessary so most of the pictures are of basically just shadows. Some tables did it right and used the flash and they came out great. Developing them was not expensive (I think we paid about $2/camera to develop).

I'd love to do that as well but the tables at our venue are on the smaller side so with all of the flatware/silverware/etc they would just be in the way.

Just don't be surprised if you develop the photos and get some penis pictures in there from your frat boy guests LOL Just kidding.

Honestly, I think there are more cons than pros, especially if it's a wedding at night where the shots are less likely to come out (outside during the day would have better luck). You might have more people trying to get pictures of main events and in the process, getting in the way of the paid photographer. Many Photographers will go around and take photos of the guests at individual tables (if your package allows for that time wise). Also, if you're having kids there, they might get their hands on them. Just some things to consider Smiley smile

Appreciate everyone's comments and may re-think idea and discuss the option with photographers and see if they have any ideas :-)

Love the idea of the shutterfly account totally stealing that!

Here is another idea that I'm considering....My parents were just at a wedding a few weeks ago where the bride and groom gave each guest/couple a blank disc inside an already addressed mailing envelope. They asked the guests to please share any pictures they captured that day.

Now that everyone has digital cameras, there's not much use for the disposable ones anymore. Just have people send you copies of the pictures they take.

I used to recommend disposable cameras to everyone, but many of our brides have been telling us that there are so many digital cameras at a wedding, that people generally take pictures with those and never use the disposable cameras. With weddings so expensive, losing the disposable cameras would be a good way to save a few dollars!

I had my laptop on site and set up so that guests with digital cameras could copy their photos onto my computer before leaving the ceremony. Not everyone remembered to copy their photos, or remembered to bring their cables... but I did get about a thousand photos by doing that.

Its easier to go through the digital pics and get rid of the bad shots than it is to pay to have them processed and have to go through them and do the same amount of work... in my opinion.

I DO need to chase down the friends and family who have been posting great pics on Facebook for the pics that I don't have. I'll be running after them with blank cds in hand until they share them with me Smiley smile

Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy the disposable cameras? Although it is a great idea to have a laptop to download, how did you get that idea across to your guests Jessy?
