Disposable cameras for guests--anyone done this?

I was thinking of giving everyone a disposable camera for the wedding and reception so we have some pictures for weddingturtle.com right away. They look to be about $3 a piece for the basic ones and we probably will need only about 50. Has anyone done this? I thought a cute poem to go with it asking...

Has anyone done this? I thought a cute poem to go with it asking them to snap shots at the wedding and luncheon might be nice. We are having everyone pick up a bottle of water and (optionally) drop their shoes in a basket before the wedding so I would have these there as well.

Or....with the programs on each seat.

With all the other crap we have bought that will get thrown away, another $100 or less isn't going to make any difference.

And I can REALLY guarantee that NO ONE would take a picture like that at our event.

No flashes at a daytime beach wedding Smiley smile. My photog said it's no problem as long as no one stands in her way.

But true--those cameras may be older...that's a thought.

    I wouldn't buy 20.

Just get one per table. As Meghan said, no one really buys them anymore so the chemicals sit in them and start to go bad.

I did this with my first wedding. I didn't have one good picture. The quality of the disposable cameras aren't very good...BUT it did occupy the guests and they seemed to enjoy them.

Well instead of buying a whole bunch of 3 dollar cameras by a few cheap digital cameras, i know walgreens has them for like 15 dollars (pretty good price, but better quality pictures then 35mm,) that way you dont have to spend the money developing all the film too. at 3 dollars a camera plus at least 5 for developing the film you are only looking at about 400 dollars.. well you can get 8 or 9 40 dollar cameras, plus extra batteries for that price.

These aren't only for the luncheon (and we are having 10 tables), they are mostly for outside at the beach.

We have a rocket launch sending us off, so I want to make sure to get pictures of that, too Smiley smile

This is a whole lot better idea than a photobooth to me!

Now that I know his mom is going to take a bazillion pictures and we have our camera there that we will give to SOMEONE, plus my photographer/guest/friend, I will probably skip it.

I didn't want to end up with no family pictures since our photographer isn't taking any of those.

I think 50 is a little much. We are doing disposable cameras. That being said we are getting 1 per table so 9 in total. I like real photo;s not digital and got them at the camera store as recommended by a friend that is a photographer. The film is good quality and they have flash, as well the developing is included and the were $10 a piece if you got 3 at a time. Some people might think that this is a waste BUT... I don't. This way as the developing is included all I have to do is drop them off. Voila 24hrs later I will have 24 x 9 pics to look through. If I got them digigally from friends I would be waiting maybe FOREVER, plus the older people don't even know how to work computers so it would be on their leisure of them taking their digital camera to the camera store and I might only see what they choose to develope. If you are going to spend $3 it's prob not a great quality and also then you still have to pay for someone to develope. i suggest trying to find a processing included pac

I do love the wedding turtle idea, so I did that, as well.

Jen P--IF everything works out, as we are leaving our luncheon, we should have this send off. Our wedding is on Cocoa Beach which is one of the best viewing spots!

So, what are you wanting the cameras for? You said on the beach... Is that where the ceremony is? If so, you really don't want people having cameras at the ceremony. It will be highly distracting, and cause lots of movement amongst your guests trying to get a decent shot. That's what your photographer is there for.

And the disposable camers (digital or not) won't give you decent enough quality pictures of anything- especially a launch. I assume you've given your phtographer a heads up about the launch. That will require some additional equipment.

We had some for my daughters reception. While the photos were "tasteful", they are not of very good quality. You will spend a lot of money developing photos that are not good.

I don't think we're keeping the photographer for the launch because she'd be just hanging around at $150 an hour waiting, and if it gets scrubbed, we're out that money for nothing, but I did let her know.

Yes, the ceremony is on the beach. No one would be getting up to take pictures--it's so small that everyone will already be RIGHT THERE where they are in their seats.

But, as I said earlier, I decided against it after all.

I'd recommend doing just 1-2 cameras per table. You don't want to get stuck with a bunch of cameras with only half of the film used, and then snapping random photos yourself just to use up the rest. I think 1-2 per table X 20ish photos each X 10 tables would be a good number to get some good shots. Some people in general just won't be interested in snapping pics all night.

We're doing the them. We are only have 1 per table, which comes out to 12. We purchased them from Efavors, which has the best price (believe me I did the research)..pre-printed cards were included. We are both in our 40's and will have a more mature crowd, so inappropriate pictures are not a concern. Also, in regards to developing cost, I usually go to WalMart and the pics that you don't want - you don't pay for them. So, all in all, I'm pro disposable cameras, lol - but like many of the other posts stated, I don't think you will need 50.

This is why I don't come here anymore, this is 2+ pages of someone "asking for input" and then immediately defending the decision she's already made when the input didn't go her way.

Yea, and we are only going to be there 2 hours. This is not a traditional wedding and reception like everyone else seems to be having Smiley smile

BTW for anyone else--you don't have to use up the rest of the pictures if they aren't used. Most places (like Walmart mentioned above) charge you only for those you develop and keep. If there are only 3 on a camera, then 3 is all you pay for.

We'll think of something else Smiley smile
