Disposable dinnerware?

Corin, on July 27, 2021 at 12:14 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
What is everyone’s thoughts on disposable heavy duty plastic plates and flatware? I was not a fan but now I’m starting to think it won’t be so bad and it’s more cost friendly.

I think it depends on the general formality and vibe of the wedding. For a formal evening event at a hotel or country club ballroom? Probably not. A more casual mid-day wedding? Probably fine.

Agree with PP that it depends on the formality and vibe of your wedding. Not appropriate for an indoor hotel or ballroom, but totally fine for a casual outdoor barn wedding or backyard BBQ style wedding.

Agreed about the formality. My sister just got married in May and had a barn wedding, and it was more rustic and country, and she used heavy duty plastic ware for their buffet dinner. We're getting married next september in a ballroom so it wouldn't work for us.

We are using it for our rehearsal dinner, but not for the dinner during the reception for our wedding because of it being more of a formal sit down dinner and event.

We are doing sit-down meals, but it's BBQ, so we are going with the heavy-duty disable that our caterer provides. We could have done actual china from them, but it would have doubled the cost.

Depends on the formality of your wedding.

We're using real dinnerware for the reception only because our venue provides it at no extra cost lol. But even if it didn't, my mom was going to rent it. For cocktail hour, we'll have heavy duty app. plates since it's finger foods!

If your reception is a backyard BBQ, then it is fine. If you are having a more formal event at a wedding venue, you should use real silverware.

Our venue is in a ballroom type setting but the caterer is providing clear nice plastic plates and plastic utensils with the buffet so thats what we will be using.

I would not do it for black tie but anything less formal is fine. The silverware has to be Costco style heavy duty or it will break. Chinet plates are preferable to plastic

We are having more of a BBQ casual wedding but still wanted a little elegance. We got these in the mail and I can't believe how nice they are.

We will have this! Our catering package came with this and I got to pick the color (I chose rose gold eeep!!) and it looks so nice! As long as you’re not having a formal dinner, I think this is great! And easier to just throw away when you’re all done! We’ll still have gussets come around to clear plates and trash tho.
