Ditch the stick?

Miquashi, on July 17, 2021 at 6:27 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 19
So I tested out a lipstick I want to wear on my wedding day. My fiance not knowing this is what I was doing told me it was too much and was too dark/doesn't fit my skin tone. Now I'm conflicted. Suggestions? Should I just ditch the lipstick all together?

I think it looks awesome!! i think your FS will have no idea they said that once they see your whole look put together on the wedding day! My partner would probably say the same thing if I put on some lipstick on a random day too haha. I think they just had no idea you were testing out a wedding lipstick. But yes, i think that shade looks amazing on you, and i can totally envision you pulling off that look flawlessly!!

I would not skip the lipstick but you can find a less dramatic shade. What do you feel prettiest in? Because you are going to wearing it, not someone else.

I think it looks great! It is a similar shade to what I want to wear and we are about the same skin tone. However, maybe test it out in different lights to make sure you are comfortable with it.

I think it looks incredible on you and is a great match. Men don’t know anything when it comes to makeup. He’s just going to think you look amazing and he won’t know why or remember this conversation. I say don’t ditch it

You will want dark for pictures, too, so I think it's fine. My lipstick is pretty dark in person, but when I see it in pictures it looks WAY lighter.

I would not wear something my significant other specifically told me they don't like. Does he normally dislike dark lipsticks? Do you normally wear lipstick? Honestly, it would be easy to find a slightly less dramatic color (there are literally thousands of lipsticks) and then you wouldn't have to have any odd feelings about it. Last thought, although the pictures are very important....how you look on the day "live" and in person is even more important. Therefore, how it looks in photos would not be my deciding factor

Gorgeous color on you and I think it compliments your caramelo tone beautifully. Maybe he's not used to seeing you in bold tones like that so wear it and others similar to it more to give him a chance to get used to it. Congrats and good luck, amiga!

I really like it. I would maybe go just the tiniest touch lighter, just a smidge, but maybe it's because you're in a darkish room in your photo?

I think it's a super pretty shade and as the others have said, with all the other makeup will look amazing.

I think it looks great and I agree that men are pretty clueless when it comes to makeup. He might just have been thrown off because you normally don’t wear that color but would think it looks good on the day when you’re all done up. I totally understand wanting him to like it. Could you show him some inspiration pics to give him a better idea of the final look?

I think lipstick is fine, but that shade is really brown on you, whereas your inspo pics have more red/purple in them. Maybe a plum color would be more flattering. If you want a dramatic lip vs a more natural look, go for it, but if you never wear bold lipstick its probably too over the top for your fiance compared to what he is used to seeing on you.

As another point, dark/dramatic colors typically don't wear well in my experience, at least where food or drink is concerned. I would make sure whatever shade you pick is something you like as well as transfer proof. Alternatively, you could do a darker lip for your ceremony and some photos and then wipe it off and go with a more natural tone for the reception, when you'll be eating and drinking. Then you kind of get the best of both worlds, and you have a more wearable/functional lip color for the latter part of your event.

I think the color looks great, but do you normally wear this color? If you don't wear this color on a regular basis or around your FH, it might explain his reaction.

I think the shade suits you well! I agree with the other posters who think your fiancé's reaction may have had more to do with it being a departure from how he normally sees you. I also think how everything looks put together is way different than if you were to just do any one element by itself. I was having my makeup done as a bridesmaid once and caught myself in the mirror with just my eyes done and just about had a panic attack. Once the lashes and hair and everything else were done and I got a look at myself all done up, it looked way more balanced. It came out looking great in pictures.

Thank you all for your input. I may consider something a tad lighter and see how I feel in it. I probably did just catch my fiancé by surprise. I tend to lean towards wearing a lot of blue/brown lipstick to none at all. The one in the picture is very transfer proof and stayed on through two meals.

Loving the inspiration look!! My recommendation, I'd ditch the lipstick.. just for the wedding day anyway!! Definitely keep wearing it otherwise because it's a great color, and looks good on you. but maybe you can find something with a more burgundy tone, like the photos, instead of the brown tones pulling in what you have on. Or, try neutralizing your lips by putting some foundation on them!! It could just be the tone is coming out more brown-ish because of your natural lip color. I'm sure your fiance will think you look great no matter how you do your makeup!! But, I'd avoid this particular shade just because you know it's not a favorite and you'll have that in the back of your mind all day.
