DIY Bar Cost

km90, on September 16, 2015 at 10:35 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Help!!! We are stocking our own bar for the wedding, and I have no idea what we should be even looking at budget wise. Even a ballpark idea would be helpful! We're planning/hoping to do beer and limited liquor, as well as some wine. We have a small handful of wine drinkers, but the majority are beer, whiskey, rum or vodka. We do have bartenders lined up who have done receptions at our venue before, so we should be taken care of on that end of things.

We are using this as a guide and adjusting it based on our guest.

ETA- For our budget we went to the liquor store to see how much everything cost. Talking to the manager he offered 10% wine when we bought it by the case.

We are using a guide as well, we'll prob get 4 kegs of beer and about 80 bottles of wine 40 of each kind. We plan on slowly buying it.

How many guests are you having? All of the online trackers were way off for us and we had more than we needed. We still have wine and beer left almost a year later. I would try out several trackers and find an average.

It's going to be huge. We both have giant families that we're close with, and a lot of friends. We're planning for 400-500 people. As ridiculous as that sounds, we had 80 at Easter dinner last year - and that was only my mom's side!!!

All the brides I have talked to that used those charts said they had TONS of alcohol left over for at least a year. Especially those who had a timed reception (4-5 hours) so keep that in mind. We have to figure out our alcohol too.

One thing that I looked into for purchasing the Liquor, if you know someone with a Costco Membership, their Vodka is rated equal to (and rumored to be made by the same company) as Grey Goose. Also, you can return any unopened bottles at Costco, so if you over-purchase you can always fall back on that.

I used one drink per guest per hour. Even using that I had alcohol left over. You just never really know how much people will drink. But it's better to be over than under.

@Elizabeth - I know, it's going to be nuts. We haven't officially started on the guest list yet, but I have a pretty good idea based on past family weddings and my Miss Rodeo SD coronation. We both just have such big families, and multiple groups of good friends!

Outdoors at the lake we live on for the ceremony, and the reception will be at the clubhouse at our county fairgrounds. The clubhouse also serves as the beer gardens during our county fair which is HUGE.
