diy Bouquets and Boutonnieres

Bethany, on January 15, 2022 at 2:33 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Hi there!
My fiancé and I are looking at saving money on wedding so that we can enjoy our day without worrying about how much money we spent after the fact. A part of doing that, I decided that I wanted to make the bouquets and boutonnieres. I have seen some really pretty homemade ones, and I think that I could do it.

Does anyone have resources to recommend on how to get started or how to make them?

Or any personal tips and tricks?

I know that I could find resources myself, but I also wanted to see if anyone used any that helped them and could personally vouge for them.

Thanks in advance!

(a few pictures attached for what I am leaning towards. Our wedding is in December and has a burgundy and sage green color scheme. More ideas and suggestions are welcome!)

Fresh flowers, contrary to popular belief, are actually much cheaper than faux. Also you don’t have to worry about them collecting dust in the garage or lasting forever in a landfill.

Fiftyflowers.com has a huge selection grouped by color, as well as tutorials on bouquets and boutonnières.
You can also purchase fresh flowers to assemble at home from Costco.com but you are limited to certain types and colors. A grocery store florist is also an inexpensive option. You can either assemble a bouquet yourself or pay them to put flowers together.

For the BMs, what about a real single stem flower or lantern?

Thought I've never personally seen or used them, I've heard great things about Ling's Moment! They have pre-made floral arrangements for decor and bouquets, corsages, and boutonnières, as well as flower arrangement boxes that give you a little bit more freedom with making your bouquet your own. You can even find them on Amazon and get the free Prime shipping.

I’ve not personally used them yet but know people that have for their wedding. They’re great and easy to use and look really good. The first time I saw someone use them I had no idea at first they weren’t real!

I'm using Ling's Moments for my bouquet and then probably grocery store flowers for the tables (we only have 5 tables so bulk ordering flowers didn't make sense for us). I haven't made my bouquet yet but I bought a box to see if I liked them. I spent $30 for a mixed box of flowers, $15 for extra greenery filler, $5 for floral tape. I really like the quality of Ling's, their inventory seems to change based off of the season but I remember they had some beautiful jewel tones for winter. I bought 5 different bunches of flowers for around $20 from Trader Joe's to experiment with table decor. I personally want a faux flower bouquet because I wanted the ability to make it a little bit before hand rather than worry about real flowers browning and wilting but the time of my ceremony but fresh flowers are beautiful if you're willing to put in the extra time! Not sure about where you are but I went to a flower arranging class and that gave me a lot of confidence on arranging fresh flowers for centerpieces. You may be able to find something similar through Groupon. I also watched Full Bloom and picked up little tidbits on flower care depending on the type. Below are pictures of Ling's Moments and also how many flowers I got for $20 at Trader Joe's.

The felt back does look obviously fake but since the flowers are on wire you can bend and conceal the felt. diy Bouquets and Boutonnieres 7
I won't have all my bottles bunched together like this but just an idea of how many flowers I got for $20.diy Bouquets and Boutonnieres 8
I learned from Full Bloom on HBO how to open tulips so that they look like a completely different flower, that's my one tip other than cutting stems at an angle so they can get enough water. diy Bouquets and Boutonnieres 9
