DIY boutonnieres?

KLevesque, on March 10, 2014 at 11:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I see that people are going to be making their own boutonnieres to save money. I'd LOVE to do this as well but I was wondering where everyone was getting their supplies and ideas from?

I'm using peacock feathers as their boutineers, because I have peacock feathers in centerpieces and bouquets.

Its totally fine doing your own boutonnieres, but just be warned that it is more time consuming than it may look.

Most boutonnieres cost $5-$10 each at a florist. While that seems steep, it really is worth it when you consider how long it takes to make one. It's awful when a boutonniere comes apart once a jacket is thrown on a chair or brushed up against something.

I did mine from sola flowers and skeleton leaves (saveoncrafts.com) and skeleton keys (Kennedy's Hardware-I think). I just googled some images.

I made the shotgun shell boutonnieres just tonight, but when I attached the pin, it won't stand up straight...it rolls to the side. Help?

I would check out Etsy before plunging in to making your own. I ordered mine from there for a steal! They were dried lavender and baby’s breath though. Even better that my husband swill last forever!

My friend is a floral design teacher at the high school and she said she couldn’t even buy the supplies to make them as cheap as the seller of Etsy.

I agree with the comments on checking out Etsy. I got a boutineer for my son for $12. I had purchased a real one from the florist for my fiance and it was $25.
