DIY branch centerpieces

Sabrina, on June 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

Hi! I'm trying to do my own centerpieces but am having a bit of difficulty. The plan is it to use real branches and then spray paint them my colors (purple and silver) but I'm not quite sure what to "place" them in. My theme is enchanted forest... does anyone have any advice/ideas or pics of what they've done? I'm ok with DIY but lack vision Smiley sad TIA!

Do you have an inspiration picture?

I would put them in tall cylinders or vases.

I was also thinking tall vases. Do you think they'll look funny with no water in them? Would you use some sort of filler? If so, what? I'm trying to keep the cost down as much as humanly possible lol.

My inspiration pic would actually be very similar to the pic above! Branches with baby's breath. I picked up some vases from the dollar store... I was thinking they would be ok for height, maybe just add more branches and then baby's breath for filler?

The picture I posted has water in the vase.. but if you want to avoid the water you could put rocks in it..keeping with the woodland theme.

I made a few for trysies. If you set them at certain angles inside the vase, they'll balance off and won't tip. I did mine with silver glitter spray though, since I was thinking of votive all around, and they really picked up the sparkle.

How high up do you think the rocks should go?

1/4-1/2 way up.. I would go for larger rocks, the softer rounder kind rather then a bunch of small ones.

My grandma gave me a good idea from a wedding she just went to they put Manzanita branches in a small pot with styrofoam in it. Then hung crystal strands off the branches. Was sooo cute.

    Kind of like this...

Does your dollar store have a bud vase the branches can stand in? Place the bud vase inside the cylinder vase and fill the in between with something.

If you decide to put branches in a pot (a la manzanita pic style) you can secure them with expanding spray foam from the hardware store (USE GLOVES!!).

I also vote for spray painting all the branches silver, and using the purple color for accents in the form of crystals or flowers.

I'll be very honest...take the advice or leave it. If you want to display branch centerpieces, spring for Curly Willow. The photos showing the flowers and the branches incorporate Curly Willow. The pic the OP posted is just a random backyard branch/stick. The difference is very noticeable. Curly Willow is a beautiful, tall (3 - 4 foot) branch, and it is pretty enough to stand alone in a vase. No offense, but the other branches just look like sticks that were broken off and spray painted. You can buy 10 bunches of Curly Willow (8-10 stems per bunch) for less than $130 from Fifty Flowers. Honestly, it will give you a much more interesting, polished, and deliberate look than random branches or sticks. Just my suggestion...

ETA: Enchanted forest? Curly willow will sustain the weight of crystals or hanging votive cups with lit candles, and you can use fishing line or a very thin ribbon in one of your two wedding colors. I'd suggest leaving the branches their natural color (that refers to your forest theme). Pick up the silver and purple with the ribbons and/or the candles you drop in the hanging votive cups (purple candles hanging from thin silver ribbon would be great). Use the tall cylinder vases to hold the branches, and use a beautiful purple or silver ribbon and glue it around the top of the vase to bring in your colors. Buy sheets of moss -- not the bags of dried Spanish moss -- but sheet moss. Put them under the cylinders. Scatter small votive candles in purple or silver votive cups and scatter some purple and/or silver rhinestones on the sheet moss. Then you'll have a silver/purple enchanted forest theme. It's not expensive, especially if you watch for sales and start buying now.

I would do something like this maybe,.. Not sure how it would look spray painted though... I would probably add purple and silver accents instead. (Maybe painted pine cones?!) The spray paint does look a little odd on those.

I'm doing the same...mine is Christmas themed. I'm using 9" tall glass vases. Hope this helps!

I'm using manzanita branches, dollar tree vases, and spray painting some rocks metallic gold to hold the branches in place with some jewel garland and gold snow flakes.
