Can I use the styrofoam cake form to make a basic cake stand?

I'm not sure about styrofoam. I have seen people make a DIY from the dollar store where the glue a candle holder to a fancy plate.

How big of a cake are you talking about?

Do you have any pics of what you would like the cake stand to look like as a finished product?

I saw this on Pinterest but I'm not sure if it'll hold the cake. Cakes are heavy!

Borrow or rent a cake base. I'm not sure the Styrofoam will support the weight of the cake and you don't want to put the cake directly on the Styrofoam (put something in between).

We totally did this for my wedding! I found a styofoam block at Hobby Lobby (found clear in the back by the craft section). I then wrapped it like a christmas gift with satin fabric then put a glitter ribbon around it. It worked great and held a 12" square cake (three tiers).

My first attempts were with styrofoam, it was ugly, they literally collapsed under the weight of the cake. Ended up giving up and dh (FOG) built one and then I blinged it out. Check with your baker on the weight of the cake and be sure and check the density and weight factor of your materials. Good luck!

PS. we lowered the tray part so that the silver cake drum the baker used fit right inside it.

We are doing multiple 1/4 sheet cakes for our wedding. I'm flipping a plastic serving tray from target upside down and spray painting it gold Smiley smile then leaving the cardboard that comes under cakes on so it doesn't touch the spray paint. This won't work for round cakes, but just in case anyone wants an idea!

The cake would not be directly on the foam

These are the stands I made for the cakes and other desserts I got the "slver" trays at the dollar store and the covered ones were wood covered with fabric....all done with candle stick holders.

I've seen that exact one at Hobby Lobby for like $25 with the coupon. Check with the baker though. Mine said it needed to hold 30lbs or something crazy.
