DIY cake stands/dessert display

klimberkat, on March 23, 2016 at 9:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I went to Ikea this weekend with my MOH to pick up frames and look for things to display all the GS cookies and s'mores supplies at the wedding. I wanted to share what I got for $40. 10 of the frames (only a few are shown, already with the signs in them), and then I made the cake stand things. By gluing plates and bowls together with super glue, I made unique pieces that look amazing!

Here is the rest. I might need one or two more, so I think I'll pick up something at the thrift store for that. Just had to share how easy this was, and a huge savings!

That's a really cute idea! Not really wedding related but I was looking for dessert stands for my FMIL's 60th birthday and this totally helped! Thank you!

Nice! I've heard about making stands with plates and candlesticks, but bowls seems like it would have more stability. Does the glue show through on the glass ones at all?

Cute, you did a good job! I did something similar to this but used it for an oreo cookie tower rather than my wedding cake.

Thanks! I had made them before using plastic plates and bowls from Walmart and love them, so thought I'd try glass. I used a clear drying cement (like superglue) that I found in the jewelry section of the craft store. I was worried about the clear one, but you can't see it at all. I did dribble a bit and used an alcohol wipe to remove it before it dried.

Just a tip I learned from the plastic versions I did: don't store them in your car for a long time. The heat melted the glue and it came apart.
