DIY candy buffet?

Caitlin, on August 26, 2012 at 12:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Any suggestions on how to save money and do this?. I'm literally getting married in four weeks so I need to do these last minute things and this is one of the things I wanted to do but kept putting it off because I didn't know where to start... Any cool and inexpensive websites out there for ordering candy I should know about? I really don't want to spend a lot. How much does this usually cost? Also do u guys have any cute display ideas? Thanks!!

HALLOWEEN CANDY IS ON SALE NOW! Use that. Lol.

Most people I have seen have spent 200-400 on candy. Depends on how many guests.

As far as jars go, think out of the box. I bought glass bowls and trifle dishes from wal-mart. And some other glass containers in the kitchen section too. They're way cheaper than apothecary jars! And if you have a Dollar Tree near you, check there too, they may have some vases you can use.

Save-on-crafts.com has scoops but you can also probably use measuring cups if need be.

Most websites for ordering candy are expensive I've noticed, or at least more than I would want to spend. As far as how much candy, I'm doing 1/4 a pound per person. Not everyone will get candy so I'm not going to do that much.

I will echo some of Shannah's comments. I did all of my buffet for $200.

I bought candy on sale at the supermarket with manufacturer's double coupons. I also bought at Walmart and CVS pharmacy.

I did not purchase any apothecary jars. I chose to go "outside the box route" . The Dollar Tree is chock full of interesting things to use. If you personalize with a ribbon and a tag, they look lovely.

I make my bags out of the cellephane bags you would find at Michaels...$2.99 for 50. I used my monogram business cards from Vista Print to personalize them.

1 - Examples of containers found at Dollar Tree/Walmart/etc

    2 - Personalized bags

    3 - DIY tags.

I would love to show you this in action at our wedding. Sadly, our DOC skrewed up the buffet big time. This is the only photo I have: She used the wrong table cloth. I had a brown one to cover the different elevations. She put my baked items that were supposed to be on a dessert buffet on it and she didn't use half of my candy.

Also....our guests loved things like nuts, craisins, choco covered craisins. Of course, my crowd was also older. I also had a few surgar free items.ou

You can also spruce up your buffet with your bouquet. The Dollar tree has great vases you can either spruce up to match or leave as is.

    1. More pics of items I used

    2. My spearmint leaf jar to honor my grandmother

    3. THE SHYTEY JOB MY DOC DID!

Carol: I think that table of goodies actually looked beautiful! I know it's probably not what you originally envisioned, but I don't think its that bad. Thanks for the suggestions!

I bought my candy from oreintal trading, winco, candy direct, target and walmart. My jars I got at Michaels, homegoods, dollar tree and goodwill. I spent between $175 - $200 on candy for 75 people. Here's a few pics!

Try Bulk Barn for candies, and dollar stores, perhaps even thrift stores for glass containers - like the others said you want an assortment of jars, bowls and perhaps even some wide mouthed vases

I'm having a candy buffet for my bridal shower... (which is this SAT yei!). All for about $50 (candy $40 and jars $6 and some ribbon) I bought all my jars like Carole at the DOLLAR TREE they have lots of cute stuff... Star shaped bowl, Heart shape bowl, vases, ,med size wine glasses, fish bowls and more... Maybe Because i am doing it for my bridal shower, i won't need as much candy as I would for a wedding. But I’m so excited to see the final project done.

Oh and I'm not color coordinating the candy like I’ve seen on most candy buffets... the way they come, that’s the way they will be placed lol so it'll be all colorful and well, like a candy store ha-ha (for a wedding i might have to color ordinate though lol)

    my list of candy include

    Skittles

    Peanut M&Ms

    Snickers

    Kit-Kat

    Starburst

    Sour Worms

I wanted all my favorite candy... not just those colored cordinated jordan almonds lol so i hope my guest like that.

I'll post pics of my final project on sat.

I'm having a larger wedding (275 guests) and for our Candy bar, we didnt limit ourselves to using certain colors. Not only because its cheaper and easier to find candy, but we couldnt get some of our favorites in different colors. Like lemons drop, snickers, etc etc. As for Jars, as pretty as they are, I wouldn't know what to do with them after the wedding! So we're renting them from a local company for just the day, along with the scoops

I love the idea of candy buffets...my mom today says "i'm not sure about the candy buffet" I replied TOUGH TITTIES! lol

    I can't wait for mine....

I say...go to a few garage sales, craigslist, goodwill etc. find the jars. As far as candy I would look for sales.

    Good luck!

I just bought 4 trifle bowls for 3.99 each at Christmas tree shop along with a 12.99 apothecary jar (i then had a 10% off your purchase coupon)

2 small circle vases at tj maxx 3.99 (no coupon)

I will be buying 2 large martini glasses 14.99 each and i have 2 40% off coupons from ac moore which are easy to get

I will need to buy 2 rectangle platters for cookies and so far i just randomly found them at walmart for like 14.99 each, still bargain hunting there (just started looking last night)

Candy I say go Halloween candy shopping and such. Maybe there is a bulk candy store near you. (we have one called sweets from heaven)

See below pic for inspiration of what i bought last night. little martini glasses represent the big ones lol and the plastic lids represent the serving trays lol

TJ Maxx is the place to go for apothecary jars. They run $10-15 a piece. At other places, they can get as expensive as $60. I second Walmart and the Dollar Tree for your other containers.

For candy, use coupons. Party City has a 40% off floating around online that I used that saved me some money.

Cragslist is a good resource, people trying to get rid of the jars after their wedding is over. I got 16 jars (good size ones ) some with lids for $60. I picked up some clear plastic scoops at thedollar store. I plan on decorating the glass jars with my matching color ribbon and bedazzling the scoops

I bought most of my dishes at yard sales and thrift stores. I bought some candy after Valentines Day and plan to get more after Halloween. Since my colors are fuschia and black I've bought licorice, m&m's, sweet tarts, jelly beans, and a few more but i also plan to buy marshmallows and pink sugar wafers. I've probably spent $60 and have more than enough dishes.

When did this candy thing become a thing?????????????? I might be prejudiced but I think it is a weird waste of money. You will probably spend more on your candy than you do on your wedding officiant./celebrant /minister. The integrity of your wedding ceremony and how it fits in with your beautiful day is so much more important. Save the money, calories and need for insulin.
