DIY Catholic Wedding Ceremony Decor

Dara, on January 9, 2017 at 2:39 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

Happy Monday !! I never attended a Catholic wedding ceremony and watched a couple ones on youtube. I didn't gather too much from the ceremonies on youtube... I want to DIY my decor for my Catholic Church ceremony. Im definitely going to choose between the ideas below to decorate the pews ... By any chance are there any DIY projects I can do to decorate the altar ?

I'm actually doing the second one for mine! We're putting silk flower arrangements on the altar (white roses)

One of the reasons you might not have seen much is that some churches won't allow much of anything. I think you should start by calling your church and seeing what will fly.

Definitely ask your church if there are any decorating restrictions first!!

The only church decor I typically see are altar flower arrangements and pew decorations!

I understand I will ask my priest ..We are only his second couple to marry so he's fairly new at this also lol (but he should have insight) ... I just wanted to do a altar piece that I can double for the reception to be honest

Many churches won't allow much as pp's have stated, this correlates with the church season (I see your September, that'd be ordinary time, where it might be more acceptable to have a few decorations). I agree with pp's definetly check with your church. Pew decorations are usually okay if they're subtle, but nothing too excessive to where it doesn't take away from the mass/ceremony. Altar decorations are usually a no, unless its approved by the priest, because the altar is where the bread and wine become Jesus, so that space needs to be reserved for the sacredness of that act. But again check with your church and priest because every parish is different.

Our church allows flower arrangements on the alter, but they ask you leave them as a donation. So be sure to ask before assuming you can take them from the church.

Only decoration we were allowed to do was an arrangement for the altar.
