DIY Centerpiece idea: Flowers in water with rocks/stones at the bottom

Allison, on February 2, 2015 at 8:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Hello!

I saw this beautiful picture on pinterest and would love to do something similar for our centerpieces, just with lavender or some other purple flower: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/344666177707852159/. I'd want to do something using the smaller cylinder vase in the photo.

But, I'm not very DIY typically so I'm not sure where to start. Does anyone know of any step-by-step directions posted online for something like this? Or a general idea of where to get the stones, how many to get for around twenty small centerpieces, etc.?

Thanks for any help!

You could try the dollar store for vases - they might have the stones too. Otherwise I would try Michael's or any arts and crafts store. The amount you need would depend on the size of your vases and the size of your stones. It looks pretty simple to assemble.

Dollar store will have vases and also stones, although maybe a limited selection. Michaels will definitely have it, any other craft store (like Hobby Lobby), also our walmart has those things too. I would start way in advance so you have time to "test" put them together and get more supplies if you need them.

Your most expensive part is going to be the vases. I found a 7" cylinder vase at the dollar tree. Right now they have a lot of these because of Valentine's Day, but no guarantee they will stock them after that. I also found a 6" cylinder vase at Yankee Candle.com on clearance for $2.00 and a 9" cylinder vase there for $2.40. I am setting up three of these with rocks, flowers, and a floating candle, but will have 30+ tables so I needed 90+ vases which really added up and I was glad to get these at these prices as they are the cheapest I've seen. You can find these at Michael's but they run a lot more.

I bought all my vases for .99 at value village, I just kept going back. I have 30 tall cylindrical vases that are all approximately the same size and height. Get the stones from outside! No sense in buying rocks haha

This would be super easy to make. Start with a test run and play with what you like. Go to craft store (get a coupon), but the size vase you like, buy the rocks you like, and the flowers. Then get some distilled water, go home, and play around with amounts and see what you like and don't like.
